Description
According to fords records, the remedy software for safety recall 20S60 may not have been installed correctly during a prior dealership visit. Because the correct software may not have been installed on your vehicle, the underlying condition specified in safety recall 20S60 may still exist and the powertrain control module pcm may have an incorrect software calibration related to the engines fail-safe cooling strategy.
Safety Risk
In the event of engine overheating due to loss of engine coolant, the pcm may be delayed in taking action to reduce the engine temperatures, which may result in damage to the external sealing surfaces and internal components of the engine. The failure of an oil seal may lead to oil contacting the hot exhaust manifold, increasing the risk of fire.
Remedy
Software is available to repair your vehicle. Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to reprogram the powertrain control module pcm free of charge. Your dealer will also perform an additional verification process to ensure that the software has installed correctly on your vehicle.
