How do I turn off Apple CarPlay with SYNC?

You can disable Apple CarPlay®* in the Settings menu of your SYNC®** system using the instructions below. 

Deactivating Apple CarPlay

Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below to learn how to turn off Apple CarPlay. If you need assistance determining the generation of your SYNC system, select the first drop-down option.

Your SYNC generation will appear on the right side of the page under the “SYNC Current Version” heading.

SYNC 4A

  1. Tap Settings or the Home icon on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Choose Phone List.
  3. Press Disable Apple CarPlay.

Apple CarPlay will be disabled and normal SYNC functionality will resume.

SYNC 4

  1. Press Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen. 
  2. Tap Phone List.
  3. Select your phone from the list of devices.
  4. Press Disable. 

Apple CarPlay will be disabled and normal SYNC functionality will resume.

Note: Apple CarPlay may need to be disabled to use some FordPass®† App functions.

SYNC 3

  1. Select Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Swipe and press Apple CarPlay Preferences.
  3. Choose your phone from the list of devices.
  4. Tap the drop-down arrow and press Disable to disconnect.

Apple CarPlay will be disabled and normal SYNC functionality will resume.

*Requires a phone with an active data service and compatible software. SYNC does not control third-party products while in use. Third parties are solely responsible for their respective functionality.

**Don’t drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don’t use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
