Description

A door latch with a broken pawl spring tab typically results in a "door will not close" condition. Should the customer be able to latch the door, there is a potential that the door may unlatch while driving. Ford is aware of two allegations of injury (soreness) resulting from an unlatched door bouncing back when the customer attempted to close it, and one accident allegation when an unlatched door swung open and struck the adjacent vehicle while the driver was pulling into a parking space.

Safety Risk

Remedy

Parts are now available to repair your vehicle. Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace all four door latches free of charge parts and labor.

Vehicles exposed to a corrosive environment where road salt is used extensively during winter months, could experience a seized rear suspension toe link ball joint resulting in a fractured rear suspension toe link. While your vehicle was not originally built with rear toe link ball joints susceptible to this condition, our records indicate that susceptible components were subsequently installed on your vehicle during rear suspension service.

Safety Risk

A seized toe link ball joint can cause a toe link fracture. Rear toe link fracture while driving could result in unusual vehicle handling characteristics, or difficulty controlling the vehicle, and may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect both toe link connections to confirm that a susceptible ball joint was installed. If your vehicle has a susceptible ball joint installed then your dealer will replace both rear toe links with an updated design. These services must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.

Ford Motor Company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Ford explorer vehicles manufactured may 17, 2010, through February 28, 2012. The affected vehicles may experience an intermittent connection in the electric power steering gear, which can cause a loss of the Motor position sensor signal resulting in a shut down of the power steering assist.

Safety Risk

If the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist it will require extra steering effort at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to update the power steering control module to prevent loss of steering assist while driving due to a Motor position sensor fault.

Description

In some of the affected vehicles, it may be possible that some of the exterior a-pillar applique trim clip attachments are not properly engaged due to improper assembly or repair. If this occurs, the a-pillar applique trim, which borders the right and left side of the windshield, may be loose, missing or become detached.

Safety Risk

An exterior a-pillar trim part that detaches while driving can create a road hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect and repair any loose or missing exterior a-pillar trim moldings free of charge parts and labor. A temporary repair may also be completed as needed.
