Charging Your Truck Bed Camera
Take Charge of Charging
Learn how to charge your Truck Bed Camera and keep it charged. Plus, find troubleshooting tips when charging isn’t going as planned.
What Powers the Truck Bed Camera?
The Truck Bed Camera is powered by both a recharging battery in the hub and power drawn from your vehicle’s OBD-II port. The battery is recharged by your truck while driving and, if the truck isn’t providing enough charge, the battery can be removed and charged on a wall outlet.
You should not need to remove the battery to charge when your truck is driven daily.
How To Keep Your Truck Bed Camera Charged and Improve Battery Life
To power the Truck Bed Camera, the hub charges its battery through your vehicle’s OBD-II port. Here’s how to maximize your battery life.
- Drive at least one hour a day: This helps keep your hub’s battery charged through the vehicle’s OBD-II port.
- Park in low-traffic areas: If possible, park in areas with less pedestrian and vehicle movement. Any motion, such as people, objects, animals, or traffic, will impact your system’s battery life.
- Limit live streaming: Prolonged live streaming can quickly drain your battery. We recommend using live streaming sparingly and only when necessary, such as during an active intrusion or to monitor suspicious activity.
- Monitor temperature conditions: Extreme hot or cold temperatures can impact battery performance.
- Regularly check your battery percentage: Inside the Ford app, keep an eye on your battery levels and ensure it remains charged.
Charging the Battery Using the Power Adapter
If the battery fully drains, you will need to remove it and recharge it indoors using the provided power adapter.
Do not use a third-party USB-C charger to charge the battery, as it may reduce the battery’s performance.
If you follow these steps and are still experiencing unusual battery drain, please reach out to Customer Support or call 866-861-0419.
Check Battery Percentage Level
You can check the battery level in the Ford app and on the hub itself. Our Customer Support may also request to see the percentage reported by your hub to troubleshoot an issue. To do this, perform a quick “press and release” on the power button (when the vehicle is not powered on).
Here’s how LEDs correspond to your battery charge level:
1 LED on — less than 25%
2 LEDs on — 25%–49%
3 LEDs on — 50%–74%
4 LEDs on — 75%–100%

How To Charge the Hub’s Removable Battery
After a few days of inactivity, the hub’s battery may drain completely. If this happens, you will need to follow these steps to remove the battery from the hub and charge it using the provided power adapter. Or visit our setup support page for a deeper dive into the process.

Step 1: Remove the Battery From the Hub
- Using your trim tool’s T8 star bit, remove the four star screws on the top of the hub. Place the screws aside in a container or on a flat surface.
- Gently squeeze the sides of the battery faceplate and lift it off.
- Take the orange fabric loop and pull up to release the battery.

Step 2: Charge the Battery
- Connect the power adapter to the charging port in the battery.
- Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet. It is important to use the charger that was included with your system. Other adapters will not charge appropriately.
- The green LED on the battery will start blinking rapidly and slow down as it gets closer to full charge. When the LED stops blinking, that means the battery is fully charged.
- It normally takes about four hours for the battery to fully charge.
Step 3: Reinstall the Battery
- Reinstall your fully charged battery into the hub. The four LEDs on the hub will begin flashing as the system boots up.
- Reattach the faceplate to the hub and secure it with the four screws.
- After the system is back online, confirm in the Ford app that your battery is fully charged.
Removable Battery LED Charging Indicators
Here’s what the LED indicators mean when charging the hub’s battery using the provided power adapter.

Battery LED Patterns
| LED Indicator | Description |
| Solid Green | Battery is fully charged |
| Flashing Green | Battery is charging |
| OFF | Battery is charged and not in use |
| Battery is plugged in and not charging | |
| Battery is out of charge |
FAQs
Get answers to common charging questions.
Why is my vehicle not charging the Truck Bed Camera Hub’s battery?
The hub is designed to recharge its battery through the vehicle’s OBD-II port, but only when the vehicle battery reads above 12.4 volts, which usually only happens while driving. If you notice your hub is not charging its battery, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Observe Charging LED on the Hub
To safely observe the hub while driving, we recommend driving with a friend. After a few minutes of driving, an LED should begin blinking steadily on the hub. If not, this is a sign your OBD-II power cable may not be connected properly or there is an issue with the battery.
Reconnect the Power Cable
The orange OBD-II power cable connections may become loose while driving. We recommend removing, cleaning, and securely reconnecting the cable connections.
Check the Battery Pack
Make sure the battery pack is charged, is oriented the correct way, and is seated in the hub correctly. You should hear a click when the battery pack is set properly.
Charge a Dead Battery
If your vehicle has not been driven in a long time, the hub’s battery may be dead. We recommend a longer drive (30–60 minutes) to recharge your battery.
If your hub is not charging its battery while driving, please reach out to Customer Support or call 866-861-0419 for further troubleshooting.
Why does Ford app show “Battery Is Low and Needs to Be Charged”?
This message means that your system’s battery percentage has fallen too low. Driving your vehicle for 30–60 minutes should charge the battery enough to remove the notification. If you’re still seeing the notification, you’ll need to remove the battery from the hub and charge using the provided power adapter.
Removing the Battery for Charging
- Locate the four screws on the battery faceplate of your hub.
- Using the multipurpose tool and T8 star bit provided, remove these screws to access the battery compartment.
- Pull up on the orange fabric loop to disconnect the battery.
Charging the Battery
- Start by removing the battery from the hub.
- Using the provided USB-C power adapter, connect the battery to a wall outlet. Please do not use a third-party USB-C charger to charge the removable battery, as it may impact battery performance.
- From a low charge, the battery’s single green LED indicator will start flashing quickly. As the battery charges and gets closer to being fully charged, the rate of the flashing will slow down.
- Charging from zero to full takes about four hours. Once the battery reaches full charge, the LED will automatically turn off.
After fully charging the battery, reinstall it into the hub. Wait about five minutes for the system to power on. If you are still receiving this message after charging your battery, please reach out to our Customer Support or call 866-861-0419 for assistance.
