Truck Bed Camera Overview

What Makes This Camera Click

Learn how it works, how it monitors, and how to track it all in the Ford app.

How Does the Truck Bed Camera Work?

The Truck Bed Camera is like a smart home camera designed for pickup trucks. This high-definition camera mounts to your rear window, overlooking the truck bed, and records activity like reach-ins and tampering.

To power the camera, there is a hub unit hidden under the rear seats that charges itself through your vehicle’s OBD-II port. The hub also enables the camera to send alerts and footage to the cloud over cellular LTE. Through the Ford app, you can view a live stream from the camera, review stored footage, and receive alerts when activity is detected.*

The Truck Bed Camera requires activation of the Ford Security Package.**

How the Truck Bed Camera Monitors Activity — and How To Test It

The Truck Bed Camera monitors inside your truck bed for suspicious activity using a combination of motion and intrusion detection.

Motion Detection
The Truck Bed Camera shines a white light when the radar is detecting movement around the truck bed.

  • In daylight, a single LED serves as a deterrent by signaling that the vehicle is being monitored.
  • At night, the light bar fully illuminates like a flood light, improving the camera’s visibility in the dark.
  • The range of motion detection is set by the size of your truck bed. If you are having issues with the white light not turning on, please try power cycling the hub by holding the power button for 10 seconds.

Activity Detection
When the camera spots a person inside the truck bed, the light bar will shine red. This sends an alert to your phone, and a recording of the incident will be available in the Ford app. The camera will only alert you of intrusion events.

The Ford app displays an intrusion occurrence.

Tonneau Covers
Tonneau covers are supported by the Truck Bed Camera but may impact how the device performs.

  • The Truck Bed Camera specifically looks for intrusions inside the truck bed that are visible to the camera.
  • Hands above the truck bed may not set off the red light or activity alerts as the hand is not inside the detection zone.
  • If the tonneau cover is on, activity detection in the bed at the tailgate position may be impacted if the cover is blocking the line of sight to the camera.
  • If the tonneau cover is raised and blocking the camera, activity will not be detected because the camera’s view is blocked.

How To Test Activity Detection
Follow these steps to properly test that motion and activity detection are working:

  • Place an item fully in your truck bed.
  • Walk 10 feet away from the truck bed and make sure the white LED on the Truck Bed Camera is off.
  • Walk up to your truck and remove the item from your truck bed. Be sure to fully reach into the bed. The white LED will turn on as you approach, while the red LED will turn on when removing the item.
  • Check your Ford app to access the recorded activity.
