Description

The interior door handle return spring may become unseated, resulting in an interior handle that is floppy or does not return to the fully stowed position after actuation. While the door latch actuation and engagement during normal vehicle usage and operation is unaffected, this condition may allow a door to unlatch during a side impact crash.

Safety Risk

If the interior door handle return spring is unseated, the door may unlatch during a side impact crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect the interior door handle assemblies. For interior door handles that pass the inspection, your dealer will install reinforcements to prevent future concerns. For interior door handles that do not pass the inspection, a revised interior door handle assembly will be installed. This service will be performed free of charge parts and labor

An intermittent electrical connection caused by quality issues pertaining to conformal coat contamination and ribbon cable pin misalignment within the steering gear Motor may lead to a loss of the Motor position sensor signal that may result in loss of power steering assist. Ford is aware of 16 accident allegations and three injury allegations related to this condition in the vehicles included in this field action. Most of the accident allegations report that minor vehicle damage was incurred, typically either wheel damage resulting from contact with a curb or minor body damage. The injury allegations were all reported as minor with no indication that medical attention was sought for any of the injuries.

Safety Risk

In the event of a loss of power steering assist, the mechanical linkage between the steering wheel and the road is maintained at all times. The steering system will default to manual steering mode, allowing the vehicle to be steered in a safe and controlled manner. Loss of power steering assist is unlikely to be associated with accidents at higher speeds, as the amount of assist supplied is inversely proportional to vehicle speed. Loss of power steering assist would require higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds, which may result in an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to update the power steering control module to prevent loss of steering assist while driving due to a Motor position sensor fault.

Ford Motor Company (ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 taurus vehicles manufactured November 24, 2008, through February 28, 2014, originally sold in, or currently registered in, connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin and the district of columbia. When used in areas that use road salt, the license plate lamp assembly may experience an electro-chemical reaction and corrosion as a result of water intrusion.

Safety Risk

This corrosion may result in a short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace both license plate lamp assemblies free of charge parts and labor.

Description

Ford has been notified that driver airbags installed on certain 2007-2012 Ford five hundred, flex, taurus, taurus x/freestyle, mercury sable and Lincoln mks vehicles may contain an inflator in which the second stage/high output will not deploy properly in certain high-speed crashes and consequently the vehicle may not comply with the requirements of fmvss 208, "occupant crash protection," S14.5.2 rigid barrier. Ford's supplier indicated that primary stage airbag deployment is not affected. Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.

Safety Risk

If the second stage enhancer is missing from the inflator system, the second stage of the airbag module inflator will not deploy as intended in high speed crashes and the vehicle may not comply with the requirements of fmvss 208. This may increase the risk of an injury in a crash that requires a high output deployment.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace the driver airbag module, if necessary, free of charge parts and labor.
