Recall Information

Description

Obsolete service replacement airbag modules may have been installed into vehicles during a collision or service repair after a final takata airbag recall repair was completed. There is no issue with the airbags used in the recall repair. However, if after the recall was completed, the driver or passenger airbag was subsequently replaced during a collision or service repair, the airbag(s) may contain a defective airbag inflator.

Safety Risk

Defective airbag inflators may explode in a crash that causes deployment of the airbags. If an inflator explodes, sharp metal fragments could strike vehicle occupants, causing serious injury or death.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect and replace the driver and/or passenger airbag(s) if necessary, free of charge (parts and labor).

Ford is recalling certain model year 2011 ranger trucks built from January 25, 2011, through April 25, 2011 at the twin cities assembly plant, and service parts distributed to dealers for certain 2004 through 2011 model year ranger trucks, 2002 through 2005 model year excursion vehicles, and 2002 through 2007 model year F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks for failing to comply with the requirements of federal Motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment." the multi-function switch was shipped with a subcomponent (slider) that may experience deformation. A multi-function switch with a deformed slider may malfunction causing the turn signal, tail lights, hazard warning signal flashers and/or brake lights not to activate.

Safety Risk

Non-functioning lights could increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the switches free of charge. The safety recall began on August 15, 2011. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332.

On your vehicle, the replacement frontal passenger airbag inflator may have been installed in the incorrect orientation during a previously executed repair for field service action fsa 17S42 or 18S02.

Safety Risk

If a previously remedied vehicle has a mis-installed passenger airbag inflator and is in a crash event necessitating deployment of the passenger airbag, the airbag may not deploy as intended, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect the passenger airbag inflator and correct any installation issues found.

On your vehicle, the front driver and passenger airbag inflator housings may rupture and deploy abnormally in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of either frontal airbag.

Safety Risk

An inflator rupture could result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants causing serious injury or death.

Remedy

Do not drive your vehicle until your dealer replaces the front driver and passenger side airbag inflator. Parts are now available to repair your vehicle. Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace the front driver side and passenger side airbag inflators free of charge parts and labor. This is a permanent repair for your vehicle and must be performed even if you had an airbag inflator previously replaced as an interim repair.
