Recall Information

Description

Some vehicles may experience an intermittent loss of the transmission output speed sensor (oss) signal to the powertrain control module, potentially resulting in a temporary, unintended downshift into first gear. In some cases, the oss signal could recover while driving and the vehicle will resume normal function; in other cases the vehicle may need to be stopped and restarted to regain normal transmission operation. Ford is aware of three reports of accidents and no injuries related to this condition on the affected vehicles.

Safety Risk

Depending on vehicle speed at the time of the downshift, an unintended downshift into first gear may occur causing the rear tires to slide or lock up until the vehicle slows. This may result in a loss of vehicle control without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to reprogram the powertrain control module with software that will prevent an unintended downshift into first gear in the event of an intermittent oss failure. This service will be performed free of charge parts and labor.

The passenger airbag inflator in your vehicle may explode in the event of a crash that causes deployment of the passenger airbag.

Safety Risk

If an inflator explodes, sharp metal fragments could strike the passenger or other occupants, causing serious injury or death.

Remedy

Do not drive your vehicle until your dealer replaces the front passenger side airbag inflator. Parts are now available to repair your vehicle. Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace the front passenger side airbag inflator free of charge parts and labor. This is a permanent repair for your vehicle and must be performed even if you had an airbag inflator previously replaced as an interim repair.

Description

Obsolete service replacement airbag modules may have been installed into vehicles during a collision or service repair after a final takata airbag recall repair was completed. There is no issue with the airbags used in the recall repair. However, if after the recall was completed, the driver or passenger airbag was subsequently replaced during a collision or service repair, the airbag(s) may contain a defective airbag inflator.

Defective airbag inflators may explode in a crash that causes deployment of the airbags. If an inflator explodes, sharp metal fragments could strike vehicle occupants, causing serious injury or death.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect and replace the driver and/or passenger airbag(s) if necessary, free of charge (parts and labor).

Ford is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Ford F-150, 2012 expedition and Lincoln navigator, and 2012-2013 mustang vehicles, for failing to comply with the requirements of federal Motor vehicle safety standard nos. 102, transmission shift lever sequence, starter interlock, and transmission braking effect and 108 lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment. These vehicles may have a transmission range sensor - trs that was calibrated out of specification for reverse gear.

Safety Risk

If this condition exists, the transmission may not go into reverse or when the driver pushes the shift lever in the reverser position and the vehicles transmission does go in reverse, the r may not illuminate on the dashboard of the F-150, expedition, or navigator models and/or the backup lamp on the rear of the F-150, expedition, navigator, or mustang vehicles may not illuminate. These conditions increase the risk of a crash or a pedestrian being struck due to the vehicles not signaling it is in reverse.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect and if necessary, replace the transmission range sensor free of charge parts and labor.
