Description
On your vehicle, a chemical reaction between aged dot 3 brake fluid and the zinc plating inside the hydraulic control unit hcu may result in a gel formation, which may cause the hcu valve to be stuck open.
Safety Risk
If the hcu valve is stuck open, this may result in extended brake pedal travel required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. The condition does not result in a loss of braking function and the vehicle can be brought to a controlled stop.
Remedy
Parts are now available to repair your vehicles. Ford Motor Company will authorize your dealer to confirm the proper function of your hcu using fords integrated diagnostic software system. The hcu inspection and following service actions will be performed free of charge parts and labor.
