Description

Vehicles that are exposed to frequent full rear suspension articulation (jounce and rebound) may experience a fractured rear suspension toe link.

Safety Risk

A fracture of a rear toe link significantly diminishes steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Parts are now available to repair your vehicle. Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace both rear suspension toe links free of charge parts and labor.

Description

An intermittent electrical connection caused by quality issues pertaining to conformal coat contamination and ribbon cable pin misalignment within the steering gear Motor may lead to a loss of the Motor position sensor signal that may result in loss of power steering assist. Ford is aware of 16 accident allegations and three injury allegations related to this condition in the vehicles included in this field action. Most of the accident allegations report that minor vehicle damage was incurred, typically either wheel damage resulting from contact with a curb or minor body damage. The injury allegations were all reported as minor with no indication that medical attention was sought for any of the injuries.

Safety Risk

In the event of a loss of power steering assist, the mechanical linkage between the steering wheel and the road is maintained at all times. The steering system will default to manual steering mode, allowing the vehicle to be steered in a safe and controlled manner. Loss of power steering assist is unlikely to be associated with accidents at higher speeds, as the amount of assist supplied is inversely proportional to vehicle speed. Loss of power steering assist would require higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds, which may result in an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to update the power steering control module to prevent loss of steering assist while driving due to a Motor position sensor fault.

Description

On affected vehicles, a component within the fuel pump electric module (pem) may malfunction due to elevated temperatures within the module. Malfunction of the fuel pem may result in an open circuit causing a loss of electrical power to the fuel pump. If this occurs, the customer may experience an engine no-start or an engine stall. In some cases, the engine may stall without warning or the ability to restart.

An engine stall while driving without warning or the ability to restart, can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace your vehicles fuel pump control module, free of charge parts and labor.

Description

Our records indicate that a Ford safety recall was previously performed on your vehicle to replace the rear suspension toe links. Assessment of field data indicates that the ball joint used to attach the rear toe link may be susceptible to seizing in certain high corrosion areas. A seized toe link ball joint can increase bending stresses in the toe link and potentially lead to a fracture.

Safety Risk

Rear toe link fracture while driving could result in unusual vehicle handling characteristics, or difficulty controlling the vehicle and may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect both rear toe link ball joints and, if necessary, replace the rear wheel knuckle(s), and adjust rear toe free of charge (parts and labor).

Description

In some of the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been fully engaged. If the circlip is not fully engaged, the splines between the linkshaft and halfshaft may move outward over time, which can result in noise and vibration, teeth shear and/or halfshaft disengagement from the linkshaft.

Safety Risk

If the two shafts fully disengage, the halfshaft will no longer transmit torque to the wheel and the customer can experience loss of drive function. Additionally, this condition could potentially result in unexpected vehicle movement if the gearshift is placed in the park position without the park brake being activated.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect to verify the right-hand halfshaft is fully inserted and retained on the intermediate shaft. If the halfshaft is not fully inserted and retained on the intermediate shaft, your dealer will make repairs free of charge parts and labor.
