On your vehicle, the driver seat backrest frame may have been improperly welded, which could result in an inoperative or difficult to operate seat backrest recliner, seat squeaks, unexpected or sudden movement on one side, or a seat backrest that appears to be leaning rearward on one side.

Safety Risk

An improperly welded seat backrest frame may not adequately restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect, and if necessary, replace the driver seat backrest frame free of charge (parts and labor).

Safety Risk

A door handle fitted with the Ford accessory chrome exterior door handle cover could unlatch during a side impact, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect your vehicle and remove and discard the affected Ford accessory chrome exterior door handle trim covers, if required, free of charge. Dealers are also authorized to refund vehicle owners for the purchase price or msrp of the Ford accessory exterior chrome door handle trim cover kit once the covers have been discarded.

Our records indicate that you had previously been notified of Ford safety recall 18S45 affecting the engine block heater cord on your vehicle but have not yet scheduled a repair with a Ford dealer. As explained below, we are instructing you not to use the engine block heater in your vehicle.

Safety Risk

If the block heater cord currently installed on your vehicle is plugged into a wall outlet, this may result in an inoperative engine block heater, tripping of household breakers or gfci equipped outlets, and/or a resistive short. A resistive short increases the risk of overheated or melted wiring, and/or fire.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to disable your existing engine block heater cord. The disabling of the cord will be done free of charge parts and labor.

Carpet shielding and insulation rework. Front seat belt pretensioner deployment during a crash event can result in excessive sparks generated by suspect pretensioning devices. In some cases, this could result in the ignition of carpet or carpet insulation material in the b pillar area.

Safety Risk

A fire in the b pillar area following deployment of the front seat belt pretensioners may propagate within the vehicle and may increase the risk of injury.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to apply shielding to the carpet and its insulation and modify the b-pillar insulation free of charge parts and labor.

On your vehicle, water entry into the electrical system could cause the tailgate to unlatch and possibly open while the vehicle is being driven or is stationary.

Safety Risk

An unintended tailgate opening may result in damage to the tailgate and/or allow unrestrained cargo to fall out of the truck bed and become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to modify the tailgate/frame wiring harnesses and install a new tailgate handle release switch free of charge (parts and labor).

In the affected vehicles, inadequate adhesion of the protective shield on the fuel conditioning module may allow it to be dislodged by road debris or water spray. If the protective shield is dislodged, road debris or water spray may force open the drain valve on the module. This can lead to air ingress into the fuel system or a substantial fuel leak.ford is not aware of any reports of accident, injury or fire related to this condition

Safety Risk

In the event of water spray or road debris opening the drain valve, a substantial fuel leak could occur. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may increase the risk of fire. In addition, under certain conditions, significant liquid fuel on the road surface may cause a slip hazard, increasing the risk of a crash

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace the fuel conditioning module bottom cover which will include a protective metal shield around the fuel drain plug free of charge parts and labor.

On your vehicle, an underbody insulator may loosen and contact the aluminum driveshaft, resulting in marking or scoring of the driveshaft. Continued contact may result in driveshaft fracture.

Safety Risk

A fractured driveshaft poses the risks of loss of motive power while driving, unintended vehicle movement while the vehicle is in park if the parking brake is not applied, and secondary damage to surrounding components. A fractured driveshaft may also contact the ground which may cause loss of control of the vehicle while driving. A fractured driveshaft increases the risk of injury or crash.

Engine block heater cable splice connectors that had been inspected in accordance with recall 18S45 - 18V894 may have inadvertently become damaged during that service procedure. A damaged block heater cable can cause a resistive short, inoperative engine block heater, and or tripping of household breakers or gfci equipped outlets while the vehicle is parked and the block heater is plugged in.

Safety Risk

The risk to safety only exists while the vehicle is parked and the block heater cable is plugged into an electrical outlet. A resistive short in the engine block heater splice connector can increase the risk of overheated or melted wiring and fire.

The frame reinforcement for the fuel tank support strap is required on super duty pickup applications for long-term durability. Over time, the missing reinforcement on these vehicles could lead to the fuel tank strap separating from the frame, resulting in the fuel tank moving out of position and potentially contacting the ground, increasing the risk of a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect and if necessary, install a new frame crossmember reinforcement bracket on your vehicle free of charge parts and labor.
