Description

If your vehicle is involved in a crash, deployment of the front seatbelt pretensioners may cause a fire inside the driver or passenger side b-pillar trim (the outboard floor area next to the front seats) in the vehicle passenger compartment.

Safety Risk

A fire in the b-pillar area may spread within the vehicle and increase the risk of injury. You may notice odor and/or smoke as the fire develops.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to modify the b-pillar insulation, remove electrical harness tape remnants, and apply shielding to the carpet insulation and loadspace trim panel (on regular cab vehicles only) free of charge (parts and labor).

Description

On your vehicle, the driver seat backrest frame may have been improperly welded, which could result in an inoperative or difficult to operate seat backrest recliner, seat squeaks, unexpected or sudden movement on one side, or a seat backrest that appears to be leaning rearward on one side.

Safety Risk

An improperly welded seat backrest frame may not adequately restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect, and if necessary, replace the driver seat backrest frame free of charge (parts and labor).

If Ford accessory chrome exterior door handle trim covers have been installed on the door handles of your vehicle, the handles may not conform to the requirements specified by federal Motor vehicle safety standard fmvss no. 206, door locks & door retention components inertial load requirement. Note: this recall affects vehicles fitted with any of the following Ford accessory part numbers: VF3LZ-1522404 a, VF3LZ 1522404 b VF3LZ 1522468 a, VF3LZ 1522468 b

Safety Risk

A door handle fitted with the Ford accessory chrome exterior door handle cover could unlatch during a side impact, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect your vehicle and remove and discard the affected Ford accessory chrome exterior door handle trim covers, if required, free of charge. Dealers are also authorized to refund vehicle owners for the purchase price or msrp of the Ford accessory exterior chrome door handle trim cover kit once the covers have been discarded.

On your vehicle, it may be possible that the passenger front seat belt buckle attachment to the seat track assembly was not welded properly during manufacturing.

Safety Risk

A seat belt buckle weld with insufficient penetration may not properly restrain an occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace the passenger front seat track assembly free of charge (parts and labor).

Description

On your vehicle, the brake master cylinder may allow brake fluid to leak into the brake booster. If the brake fluid reservoir is depleted below a pre-determined level, you will be alerted that brake system service is required by a combination of the following an audible chime a full screen message center alert illumination of the red brake warning indicator shown to the left if the brake fluid reservoir is depleted through continued vehicle operation, you may experience a change in brake pedal travel and feel, and increased pedal effort. If a loss of brake fluid is substantial, it can reduce brake function in the front wheels. Brake function in the rear wheels is unaffected by this condition.

Safety Risk

Reduced brake function in the front wheels can extend stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace your vehicles brake master cylinder, and if the brake master cylinder is leaking, also replace the brake booster, free of charge parts and labor.

On your vehicle, it may be possible that the installed remanufactured transmission is missing an internal bearing.

Safety Risk

This may result in the transmission having harsh shifts, shudder or vibration, getting stuck in certain gears or check engine light cel illumination. This may also result in the transmission not engaging park, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Description

Engine block heater cable splice connectors that had been inspected in accordance with recall 18S45 - 18V894 may have inadvertently become damaged during that service procedure. A damaged block heater cable can cause a resistive short, inoperative engine block heater, and or tripping of household breakers or gfci equipped outlets while the vehicle is parked and the block heater is plugged in.

Safety Risk

The risk to safety only exists while the vehicle is parked and the block heater cable is plugged into an electrical outlet. A resistive short in the engine block heater splice connector can increase the risk of overheated or melted wiring and fire.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to disable your existing engine block heater cord. The disabling of the cord will be done free of charge parts and labor.

On your vehicle, immediately after engine start up at cold ambient temperatures, the transmission shift position indicator located in the instrument panel cluster may not illuminate and display the selected transmission gear position. In addition the instrument panel cluster may be inoperative.

Safety Risk

If the shift position indicator does not illuminate to display the selected gear position, the risk of injury or crash from unintended vehicle movement is increased. In addition, an inoperative instrument panel cluster display may prevent activation of certain warning chimes, messages and warning lights

The secondary digital torque sensor in your vehicles steering gear was calibrated with an inverted polarity. If the primary steering torque sensor experiences a failure or fault, the inverted polarity on the secondary sensor may cause the steering wheel to begin oscillating without warning alternating clockwisecounterclockwise when attempting to steer, due to the electric power assisted steering epas providing unintended steering assist.

Safety Risk

Unintended steering assist can lead to loss of vehicle control while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Software is now available to repair your vehicle. Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to reprogram the power steering control module pscm free of charge.

Our records indicate that you had previously been notified of Ford safety recall 18S45 affecting the engine block heater cord on your vehicle but have not yet scheduled a repair with a Ford dealer. As explained below, we are instructing you not to use the engine block heater in your vehicle.

Safety Risk

If the block heater cord currently installed on your vehicle is plugged into a wall outlet, this may result in an inoperative engine block heater, tripping of household breakers or gfci equipped outlets, and/or a resistive short. A resistive short increases the risk of overheated or melted wiring, and/or fire.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to disable your existing engine block heater cord. The disabling of the cord will be done free of charge parts and labor.

On your vehicle, it may be possible the transmission park pawl guide cup roll pin was not installed.

Safety Risk

If the roll pin is missing, the guide cup could move out of position with repeated use. The transmission may eventually lose park function, even when the shifter and prndl display indicate the vehicle is in park. This condition could allow the ignition key, if equipped, to be removed with no instrument panel warning message or warning chime while exiting the vehicle indicating the vehicle is not secured in park. This could result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect and install the roll pin free of charge (parts and labor).

Description

On your vehicle, a frozen door latch, or a bent or kinked door latch actuation cable, may result in a door that will not open, will not close, or opens while driving condition.

Safety Risk

This may result in a latch that may not fully engage the door striker which could cause the door to open while driving, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Parts are now available to repair your vehicle. Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to install door latch water shields and repair any kinks in the latch actuation cables free of charge (parts and labor).

Description

On your vehicle, it may be possible the roll pin attaching the transmission shift linkage to the transmission may come out. If this happens, movement of the shift lever by the driver will not change the transmission gear state.

Safety Risk

The driver may experience the following: unintended vehicle movement if the parking brake is not applied, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. When exiting the vehicle, if the transmission is not in park, the ignition key can be removed, but a warning chime and message will be displayed in the instrument cluster indicating transmission not in park. If the vehicle is equipped with a console shifter, the shifter indicator could display conflicting gear position with the instrument cluster prndm indicator. No ability to restart the vehicle, unless the roll pin came out when the transmission was in park or neutral. A loose or low effort feel of the shift lever (regardless of transmission gear position when the pin falls out). These conditions increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to replace the transmission roll pin free of charge (parts and labor).

Safety Risk

Inadequate rivet head thickness may result in separation of the left-hand rear inflatable seatbelt buckle from its mounting bracket during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
