Description
The rear air service or parking brake jounce hoses in these vehicles may contact and chafe on the rear axle housing during vehicle operation. Over time this could cause an air leak resulting in inadvertent application of the parking brake or degradation of the rear service brake performance. Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.
Safety Risk
An air leak in the parking brake line can result in inadvertent application of the parking brake system. An air leak in the rear service brake line can result in degradation of the rear service brake performance. Either of these conditions can increase the risk of crash.
Remedy
Dealers will install revised rear brake air chambers following normal workshop manual procedures. Dealers will also inspect the vehicle service and parking brake air lines for damage and replace, if required, following normal workshop manual procedures. There will be no charge for this service. Ford is excluding reimbursement for costs because the original warranty program would provide for a free repair for this concern.
