Description
Certain 2011-2015 F-350/450/550 ambulance and fire engine prep package vehicles may detect an exhaust gas temperature sensor (egt) fault that results in an incorrect egt sensor over temperature indication. An over temperature indication can result in implementation of a failure mode effects management (fmem) mode that could result in delayed patient care.
Safety Risk
Ford believes that a unique condition exists for ambulance and fire engine prep package vehicles when an fmem caused by an egt sensor fault can ultimately lead to an engine shut down and subsequent inability to quickly restart. If this condition were to occur when an ambulance or fire engine vehicle was transporting a patient or providing medical assistance, the eventual engine shut down and subsequent cool down period may delay medical treatment and increase the risk of injury to the patient.
Remedy
Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to reprogram your powertrain control module pcm free of charge to prevent any single egt sensor fault from causing the vehicle to enter a stop safely now mode.
