Description
Engine block heater cable splice connectors that had been inspected in accordance with recall 18S45 - 18V894 may have inadvertently become damaged during that service procedure. A damaged block heater cable can cause a resistive short, inoperative engine block heater, and or tripping of household breakers or gfci equipped outlets while the vehicle is parked and the block heater is plugged in.
Safety Risk
The risk to safety only exists while the vehicle is parked and the block heater cable is plugged into an electrical outlet. A resistive short in the engine block heater splice connector can increase the risk of overheated or melted wiring and fire.
Remedy
Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to disable your existing engine block heater cord. The disabling of the cord will be done free of charge parts and labor.
