Description
The service replacement steering gear produced by caas between July 1, 2014, and October 17, 2014, may not properly package to the frame rail due to insufficient clearance on some vehicles. This condition could result in insufficient clamp load on the joints, which over time may cause fatigue of one or more of the steering gear retention bolts, potentially resulting in bolt fracture which could cause a loss of steering.
Safety Risk
Loss of steering control while driving can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to install mounting spacers between the steering gear and the frame, and replace the steering gear fasteners free of charge parts and labor.
