Description

Vehicles that are operated in high-corrosion environments associated with long-term exposure to road salt may experience corrosion underneath the fuel tank mounting reinforcement brackets at the weld seam that may cause a small hole to form in the fuel tank resulting in a fuel vapor leak or liquid fuel leak.

Safety Risk

A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could potentially result in a fire.

Remedy

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect your vehicles fuel tank and either clean and treat the fuel tank with corrosion preventative measures or replace it if needed. This service will be completed free of charge parts and labor.

This is a permanent repair for your vehicle and must be performed even if you had an airbag inflator previously replaced as an interim repair.

Obsolete service replacement airbag modules may have been installed into vehicles during a collision or service repair after a final takata airbag recall repair was completed. There is no issue with the airbags used in the recall repair. However, if after the recall was completed, the driver or passenger airbag was subsequently replaced during a collision or service repair, the airbag(s) may contain a defective airbag inflator.
