Description
Improper clamping of the upper intermediate shaft during an upper intermediate shaft extension service procedure completed as part of 13S08 or 13R01 could have resulted in the overextension of one portion of the upper intermediate shaft. If this occurs there could be an insufficient amount of overlap between the shaft and tube of the upper intermediate shaft to maintain the integrity of the telescoping joint.
Safety Risk
If the upper intermediate shaft separates at the telescoping joint, the vehicle may experience a loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect the upper intermediate steering shaft and steering column lower bearing and repair as needed, free of charge parts and labor.
