What do I do if Phone As A Key will not open my door?

If you are experiencing an issue with Phone As a Key™*, ensure the requirements are met and perform the troubleshooting steps below.

Phone As A Key Requirements

  • The phone is at:
    • Bluetooth® version 4.2 or above
    • iOS® version 13 or above
    • Android OS version 8 or above
  • You have the latest version of the Ford app installed.
  • The Location Service/Permissions in your phone are set properly, as noted below.
    • iOS: Always
    • Android: Allow all the time
  • The Vehicle Connectivity Settings are enabled.
  • The Ford app is running on your phone.
  • The phone case has been removed from your device.

Troubleshooting Steps

If your phone meets the minimum requirements, is set up properly, and you are still unable to use Phone As A Key, follow the steps below.

  1. Hold your phone close to the door you would like to open. If the issue persists proceed to step 2.
  2. Try a different door.
    • If another door opens, it may also allow the first door you tried to open to unlock.
    • If other doors are not working, proceed to step 3.
  3. Toggle Bluetooth off and then back on.
    • If the door still will not open, force close and relaunch the app.
    • If that does not work, reboot your device.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, contact the Customer Relationship Center by calling 1-800-392-3673 or by choosing our Live Chat option.
