How Home Power Management Works
Many electricity providers follow “Time of Use” plans, meaning their electricity prices change throughout the day, every day. If you purchase electricity on a Time-of-Use plan from your utility, Ford Home Power Management can help minimize your home energy bill by automatically avoiding high time-of-use electricity rates.
When electricity prices get high, Home Power Management switches on and powers your home using energy from your F-150 Lightning. When electricity prices drop back to lower time-of-use rates, Home Power Management charges your F-150 Lightning back up to your desired charge level.
Important:
- Ford Home Power Management is an optional add-on service for Ford Home Backup Power customers and requires the same Bi-Directional Charging technology.
- Home Power Management is currently available only to existing Ford Home Backup Power customers through the Early Access Program.

How much power can Home Power Management supply to my home?
The F-150 Lightning can offload up to 9.6 kW of energy to your house, depending on your Home Integration System model. This energy can be used to replace high-cost electricity during peak hours. If your home needs more energy than your F-150 Lightning can supply, the rest will be provided by the grid at the current rate.
The Home Integration System is sold with four inverter options by Sunrun, with different on-grid Alternating Current (AC) output limits. Check your Home Integration System’s product code to confirm your inverter’s on-grid capability:
- 030-09844-ITC26 = 4kW On-Grid, 9.6kW Backup Inverter Capability
- 030-09845-ITC26 = 6kW On-Grid, 9.6kW Backup Inverter Capability
- 030-09846-ITC26 = 8kW On-Grid, 9.6kW Backup Inverter Capability
- 030-09847-ITC26 = 10kW On-Grid, 9.6kW Backup Inverter Capability
Your local electrical utility provider may have additional restrictions that limit how much electricity you can offload to power your home while connected to the utility grid. You can check with your utility provider for details of their interconnection agreement, which dictates how much power you can put back into your home while connected to the grid.
To protect your vehicle battery, Home Power Management limits your total energy transfer to 50 kWh per week.
Where will Home Power Management work?
Home Power Management will work wherever both the Ford Charge Station Pro and Home Integration System are installed. Home Power Management will not work at any other locations.
How will Home Power Management impact my vehicle battery's health and life cycle?
Home Power Management is a smart service that can detect the age and health of your battery. The computer algorithm that controls Home Power Management limits how much power it uses with your battery health in mind.
Note: Use of Home Power Management will not void your vehicle’s battery warranty.
How will Home Power Management impact my vehicle's driving range?
To make sure you always have enough power to drive your vehicle, you can set a Range Reserve on your vehicle's battery. To preserve energy for your drive, Home Power Management (and Home Backup Power) will stop using your vehicle’s high-voltage battery when it gets to your Range Reserve setting.
You can find the Range Reserve settings on your FordPass®* or SYNC®** screen under the Home Backup Power settings tab.
Note: If you need to charge your vehicle immediately, you can stop powering your home using your SYNC screen or through energy.ford.com. You can then begin a charge session without interference.
What factors affect my Home Power Management savings?
The amount you can save with Home Power Management depends on various factors:
Time-of-Use Rates
Time-of-use rates mean that the amount you pay for electricity changes depending on the time of day. This is because electricity costs more to produce when many people are using it at the same time, like during evening times. These higher-cost times are called peak hours. But during other times of the day when fewer people are using electricity, like at night, it costs less. These are called off-peak hours.
If your residential energy plan is a Time-of-Use plan, then peak hours and off-peak hours are important because they determine how much you pay for electricity. When you use electricity during peak hours, you will be charged more. But if you use electricity during off-peak hours, you will be charged less because it costs less to make electricity at that time.
If your local utility rates are significantly different between peak and off-peak hours, Home Power Management can save you more. Home Power Management is not recommended for customers who do not have a Time-of-Use electricity plan.
Check with your utility provider for more information about your plan and applicable time-of-use rates.
Home Electricity Usage
If you use more energy, Home Power Management can save you more on your electricity bill.
Check your bill or local utility website to see how much electricity your home uses. If you use more electricity than Home Power Management can provide, the rest of the energy you need will be provided by the grid at the current rate. For additional information, see the FAQ section How much power can Home Power Management supply to my home?
Vehicle Plug-in Schedule
Your driving schedule may affect how much you can save using Home Power Management. Since your F-150 Lightning must be plugged into the Ford Charge Station Pro at your home to provide power, Home Power Management cannot help you avoid costs during that time if your truck is away from home during peak hours.
Check with your local utility provider to see what your peak hours are. If your vehicle is usually home during those hours, then Home Power Management can save you more on your electricity bill.
