Watch the video below to learn more about charging your electric vehicle (EV) at public charging stations.

What is DC fast charging?

Level 3 DC fast charging provides the fastest experience for charging an EV. This is most commonly available at public charging stations for a fee.

DC fast charging output ranges from 50 kW to 350 kW and can charge a vehicle from 15-80% in under 45 minutes. The charging speed will vary based on the capability of the charging station, the amount of power an EV can accept, if the battery is fully warmed up for charging, and the weather.

When should I use fast charging?

DC fast charging is a great option for longer road trips or less frequent, on-the-go, charging needs. To protect the longevity of your battery, Ford recommends that the majority of charging should be done at routine, slow-and-steady, speeds using Level 1 and Level 2 chargers. This helps keep your battery healthy and also costs less.

What are some battery tips for fast charging?

Charging speed will slow down significantly when the state of charge reaches 80%. While the vehicle will continue to charge after reaching 80%, we recommend you charge only how much energy you need to get you to your next destination, whether that is another DC fast charger or your final destination. Using a trip planner like Power My Trip in FordPass** will help you determine how much charge you need.

Note: The F-150 Lightning charge limit is set to 90%. If you need to change the limit, you can manually change it in the settings.

Your battery is under warranty for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
