How do I set SYNC Navigation map preferences?

You can configure your map preferences in the Navigation menu of your SYNC®* system using the instructions below.

Adjusting Map Settings

Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below to learn how to change your Navigation map preferences. If you need assistance determining the generation of your SYNC system, select the first drop-down option.

SYNC 4A

To adjust your map preferences with SYNC 4A:

  1. Tap Settings or the Home icon on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Press Navigation.
  3. Ensure the map is centered.
  4. Select the Search icon.
  5. Choose Settings. 

Several map settings will be displayed.

SYNC 4

To adjust your map preferences with SYNC 4:

  1. Tap Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen. 
  2. Press Navigation.
  3. Select the Menu icon.

SYNC 3

To adjust your map preferences with SYNC 3:

  1. Tap Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen. 
  2. Choose Navigation. 
  3. Select the Map Preferences tab. 

The following map modes are available:

Map Mode Description
Zoom In

Displays a closer view of the map

Note: Zoom views can be adjusted in preset increments, as well as pinch to zoom in or out of the map.
Zoom Out

Displays a more distant view of the map

Note: Zoom views can be adjusted in preset increments, as well as pinch to zoom in or out of the map.
North Up Displays the northern direction facing the top of the screen
Heading Up Displays the direction of forward-travel facing the top of the screen
3-D

Displays an elevated perspective of the map, which will orient the customer to their destination as they drive. 

Note: This icon also displays advanced 3-D views of landmarks and city models (when available). 
Re-Center Centers the map after you have scrolled the map away from your vehicle’s current location

SYNC with MyFord Touch®

To adjust your map preferences using SYNC with MyFord Touch:

  1. Press Navigation on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Press the Red Arrow on the upper-left side of the screen to toggle between map modes.
    • Heading-up: The direction of forward travel facing the top of the screen.
    • North-up: The northern direction facing the top of the screen.
    • 3-D View: A bird’s-eye view and graphical representation of buildings with a certain tourist value in selected cities is on the screen.

Notes:

  • Tapping View toggles between different navigation view modes.
  • When a route is not active, pressing View toggles between full map and map/exit info modes.
  • When a route is active, selecting View toggles between full map, map/exit info view, and map/turn list view.

SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation

To adjust your map preferences using SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation:

  1. Press the Nav hard button on the navigation system. 
  2. Tap the Map Preferences tab on the screen. 

The following preferences are available:

Preferences Description
Bird's Eye View Provides an elevated map perspective
Turn List Displays turn instructions
Map View

Provides the following optional views:

  • Map view
  • Arrow/map
  • Turn list/map
Map Content

Displays the following: 

  • Current street name 
  • Distance to the destination
  • Speed limit
  • Previously traveled route

*Don’t drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don’t use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
