Description
On certain vehicles, the park brake may not fully engage when applied. Fmvss 135 S7.12 requires that the parking brake system hold the vehicle stationary on a 20 percent grade, in both a forward and reverse direction, for five minutes with the transmission in neutral. Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.
Safety Risk
If the transmission is in park, there will be no unintended vehicle movement. If the transmission is left in a gear other than park, and the vehicle is parked on a sufficient slope, a non-functional parking brake could result in unintended vehicle movement.
Remedy
Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to inspect the parking brake on your vehicle to ensure it is functioning properly. If it is not functioning properly, your dealer will replace the parking brake control.
