Other factors, such as the weather, could also determine whether your fuel economy results differ from the ratings displayed on your window sticker.
To continue maximizing your fuel economy, use the following tips:
FUEL-EFFICIENT DRIVING & MAINTENANCE TIPS
KNOW YOUR LIMIT
The faster you drive, the more gas you use. It’s smart to stay within posted speed limits to help use less gas.
KEEP YOUR COOL
The Department of Energy reports that aggressive driving can lower gas mileage by 33 percent at highway speeds. Keep your cool, and save more fuel.
SAVE FUEL WITH CRUISE CONTROL, AND TRAVEL LIGHT
Cruise control helps maintain a constant speed, which can help maximize your mpg. Carrying extra cargo or people can reduce your mpg by up to 2 percent.
LIMIT FUEL-DEPLETING ACCESSORIES, AND MAINTAIN YOUR VEHICLE
Reduce your use of air conditioning, heated seats and defrosters. Use the recommended grade of motor oil, replace air and fuel filters and make sure your tires are properly inflated. Following all these tips can improve your fuel economy by 3.3 percent.
