Why I am getting an error when trying to set up a backup passcode for my Ford's Phone As A Key™*?
You may receive a "Process Aborted" error message when trying to set up your backup passcode. Ford is aware of the concern and will release a SYNC software update in summer 2021.
If you receive this message, we recommend that you perform a key cycle or reset the SYNC system, then try setting up a backup passcode again.
To perform a key cycle:
- Turn the vehicle off. The vehicle engine should not be running, and the vehicle should not be in accessory mode. Many newer vehicles will keep the radio on, even when the car is turned off, until a door is opened.
- Open the driver’s door and lock the door.
- Close the driver’s door.
- Wait two minutes and ensure the radio display turns off completely.
- Restart the vehicle.
To reset the SYNC® system, press and hold both the Volume Down and Seek Right buttons on the steering wheel controls for 10 seconds.
*Available on select vehicles. Requires feature activation. Not compatible with all smartphones.
**Don’t drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don’t use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
