How Do I Use Intelligent Backup Power?
The Ford F-150® Lightning™ is as powerful as it is innovative. Ford Intelligent Backup Power is available to give owners the ability to turn their truck into a backup power source for their home, work or wherever they've installed a Ford Charge Station Pro.
How Does Intelligent Backup Power Work?
When power is lost, the F-150 Lightning can reroute power back into your properly equipped home. Set Ford Intelligent Backup Power to automatically turn on and power your home as soon as power is lost, or manually turn on the system to power your home with full power for three days* or up to 10 days*,** when power is rationed. Intelligent Backup Power software activation is included with the purchase of the extended-range F-150 Lightning battery or can be bought as a one-time purchase for the standard-range battery at chargers.ford.com.
Equipment needed
You’ll need an 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro, which comes with the extended-range battery truck or can be purchased if you have a standard-range battery truck. Next, you’ll need the Home Integration System, exclusively sold through SunRun, which allows a two-way flow of electrons and enables the F-150 Lightning to provide backup power to your home when there’s a power outage.
Installation
Ford Charge Station Pro and the Home Integration System should only be installed by a licensed professional. You can schedule service through SunRun, our recommended installer. Please view our additional installation information to learn.
After installation, use the FordPass® App to set how you'd like Ford Intelligent Backup Power to work in the event of an outage. When power is restored, normal charging will automatically resume for your F-150 Lightning.
Capabilities
Intelligent Backup Power can be used to power several devices and appliances. It is important to know what your F-150 Lightning is capable of powering. You can view this information in our Intelligent Backup Power Capability Brochure.
*When home is properly equipped and home transfer switch disconnects home from the grid. Based on 30 kWh use per day using the F-150 Lightning with the extended-range battery. Your results may vary depending on energy usage.
