FAQs
WHAT IS PLUG & CHARGE?
With Plug & Charge technology, you can automatically pay for charging by simply plugging in at a participating public charging station, eliminating the need to use smartphones or credit cards. (The Plug & Charge feature is available at most Electrify America stations). To get started, all you need to do is activate your access to the BlueOval™ Charge Network at Ford.com/ConnectedServices and use the FordPass™ App to find and activate chargers. After you turn on your Plug & Charge feature in the FordPass App, participating stations will be able to communicate with your electric vehicle and bill you accordingly. *
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY FORD CONNECTED CHARGE STATION IS WORKING?
First, make sure it is installed by a licensed electrician. Visit Qmerit to find installation services in your area. Before charging, make sure the connector is flush with the charger’s control box. When it is flush and the connector is plugged into a wall outlet, the light on the cover should be blue.
WHY IS MY CAR SAYING IT’S 100% CHARGED BUT THE RANGE ISN’T WHAT I EXPECTED?
The vehicle may be 100% charged while the Intelligent Range displayed is higher or lower than your expectations. Several factors can affect the estimated range.† Check out this article for tips on how to maximize your range.
WHAT CHARGE LEVEL SHOULD I SET MY VEHICLE TO?
For most Ford electric vehicles, the recommended charge level is 90%. Avoid charging to 100% when you don’t need that range, though 100% charge is recommended before beginning a longer trip.
HOW DO I ORDER AND INSTALL A FORD CONNECTED CHARGE STATION?
The Ford Connected Charge Station is available to purchase through the Ford Chargers website. Requires installation by a licensed electrician. Visit Qmerit Charging to find installation services in your area.
WHAT DO I DO IF I AM STORING MY ALL-ELECTRIC VEHICLE LONG-TERM?
Make sure you start your vehicle at least once every 15 days. When away, leave it plugged in to allow the 12-volt battery to maintain charge and ensure it always has a minimum charge of 50%.
HOW DO I SET UP THE BLUEOVAL™ CHARGING NETWORK ACCESS AND GET THE FREE 250 KWH OF ELECTRIFY AMERICA DC FAST CHARGING?††
- Download the FordPass™ App164 on the App Store or Google Play.™
- Add your Ford electric vehicle to the FordPass App.
- Activate FordPass Connect (modem).
- Activate your charging services on Ford.com/ConnectedServices.
Activate your complimentary 250 kWh of EA DCFC on Ford.com/connectedservices after you’ve authorized your vehicle’s modem and set up your FordPass App account (including adding a credit card to your Ford wallet).
HOW DO I GET THE MOST OUT OF MY FORD MOBILE CHARGER?
Ford all-electric vehicles (BEVs) include the Ford Mobile Charger that provides Level 1 and Level 2 charging capability at home as well as other destinations. With the Ford Mobile Charger and a standard 120V outlet, Ford estimates you can add an average range of 3 miles per charging hour and you can add an average range of 20 miles per charging hour with the higher power 240V outlet.‡
Ask a licensed electrician to install a 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet in a convenient location for charging at your home. These Installation Specs will help them get it right. A 240V connection gives you the freedom to charge overnight so you can start every day with the electric equivalent of a “full tank.”
WHAT CHARGE LEVEL SHOULD I SET MY VEHICLE TO?
- Press the vehicle image in the top left of your SYNC® 4 touchscreen.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Press Charge.
- Use the slider to toggle Charging Locations on, if it is not already.
- Press the pencil icon next to Charging Locations to edit the information.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I RUN OUT OF CHARGE?
If you happen to run out of charge, call Ford Roadside Assistance* and we’ll tow your vehicle to one of three locations (your choice within 35 miles): a public charging station, your home residence or a Ford EV-certified dealer within the US market. If you’re more than 35 miles from home, Roadside Assistance will tow your all-electric vehicle to the nearest charge station or Ford EV-certified dealer. This service comes with the purchase of your Mustang Mach-E and is good for the first 5 years or 60,000 miles.‡‡
