How do I set up Alexa* Built-In**?

You enable Alexa Built-In using your vehicle's SYNC®† system and your mobile device.

Requirements

To use Alexa Built-In, you need to have:

Setting Up Alexa Built-In

Important: Your vehicle must be parked and running, and in an open location (e.g., free of overhead foliage, ceilings, etc.). 

Choose your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below for instructions on setting up Alexa Built-In.

Note: If you need assistance determining the generation of your SYNC system, select the first drop-down option. 

Identifying Your SYNC Generation

Two resources to help you identify your vehicle's SYNC generation are the:

  • SYNC and Navigation Updates page. Either:
    • Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select Check for update.
    • Log in with your Ford credentials, choose a vehicle from your garage, and select Check for updates.

      Note: Your SYNC generation will appear on the right-hand side of the page.

  • SYNC Visual Reference Guide, which provides example images of SYNC generations that Ford has offered.

SYNC 4A

To enable Alexa Built-In with SYNC 4A:

  1. Select Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Tap Amazon Alexa.
  3. Press Get Started on the prompt. You will be presented with a QR code to the Amazon login page.
  4. Scan the QR code using your mobile device.

    Note: If you are unable to scan the QR code, visit https://amazon.com/us/code to complete the login process.

  5. Log in to your Amazon account.
  6. Enter the code provided on your SYNC screen. A confirmation screen will appear advising Alexa is now enabled.

    Note: If a code does not appear on your vehicle, contact Amazon for resolution assistance. 

You now have access to additional Amazon Alexa settings on your vehicle. 

SYNC 4

To enable Alexa Built-In with SYNC 4:

  1. Select Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Tap Amazon Alexa.
  3. Select Yes on the prompt. You will be presented with a QR code to the Amazon login page.
  4. Scan the QR code using your mobile device.

    Note: If you are unable to scan the QR code, visit https://amazon.com/us/code to complete the login process.

  5. Log in to your Amazon account.
  6. Enter the code provided on your SYNC screen. A confirmation screen will appear advising Alexa is now enabled.

    Note: If a code does not appear on your vehicle, contact Amazon for resolution assistance. 

You now have access to additional Amazon Alexa settings on your vehicle.

Using Amazon Alexa Built-in

Say “Alexa,” followed by your question or command.

Note: If Listen to Wake Word is turned off, press the Push to Talk button on the steering wheel. After the tone, simply say “Alexa,” followed by your question or command.
