Ford Intelligent Backup Power

When the power goes out, your lights can stay on. Check out how to use your F-150 Lightning® truck as a backup power source for your home.

What is Intelligent Backup Power?

The Ford F-150 Lightning is as powerful as it is innovative. Available Ford Intelligent Backup Power gives owners the ability to turn their truck into a backup power source for their home once they've installed a Ford Charge Station Pro and Home Integration System.

How does Intelligent Backup Power work?

Intelligent Backup Power uses the bidirectional capability of the F-150 Lightning to both charge and discharge the vehicle battery. Intelligent Backup Power software activation is included with the purchase of an F-150 Lightning with an extended-range battery or can be bought as a one-time purchase for an F-150 Lightning with a standard-range battery.

How to Activate Your F-150 Lightning

You’ll need an 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro, which can be purchased from chargers.ford.com. Next, you’ll need the Home Integration System, exclusively sold through Sunrun, which allows a two-way flow of electrons and enables the F-150 Lightning to provide up to 9.6kW of backup power to your home when there’s a power outage. The system may not completely power some larger homes or homes with higher power needs.

How do I control Intelligent Backup Power?

Set Ford Intelligent Backup Power to automatically turn on and power your home as soon as power is lost or set it to manual and turn the system on and off yourself. A fully charged F-150 Lightning with the standard-range battery can power a home for up to two days,* or an individual item like a refrigerator for up to 10 days when rationing power.**
