What do I do if I am having issues with Android Auto™*?

Find possible solutions to your Android Auto issue(s) with the troubleshooting steps contained in this article.


  • Ensure that your vehicle is on and running in a well-ventilated area, and it is in Park (P).
  • Android Auto cannot be used while your device is connected to your Wi-Fi hotspot.

Android Auto Troubleshooting

If you are having a concern(s) with Android Auto, complete the following general troubleshooting steps:

  1. Make sure Android Auto is installed on your mobile device.   
  2. Verify your Android device has Lollipop 5.0 or later.
  3. Ensure your mobile device settings are correct using Google's™ Android Auto support website.
  4. Make sure your Android™ device is connected to SYNC** via Bluetooth®†
  5. Restart your mobile device.
  6. Attempt a SYNC module reset.
  7. Try connecting to SYNC with a high-quality USB cable if troubleshooting while connected to Bluetooth fails.

Android Auto Not Showing/Disappears from the SYNC Screen

If Android Auto is not displaying or vanishes from the SYNC screen, try the following steps:

  1. Unplug the cable from the USB port.

    Note: For SYNC 4A and SYNC 4, disconnect your mobile device SYNC via Bluetooth.  

  2. Perform a master/factory reset, and allow the reset to finish.
  3. Plug the cable into the USB port.

    Note: For SYNC 4A and SYNC 4, connect your moible device to SYNC via Bluetooth.  

  4. Confirm the welcome animation appears.
  5. Shut the vehicle off completely by going through the following sequence:
    1. Turn the vehicle off.
    2. Open the door.
    3. Leave the vehicle.
    4. Shut the door.
    5. Lock the vehicle.
    6. Step at least 5 ft away from the vehicle for 5 minutes.
  6. Re-enter and start your vehicle.
  7. Confirm the welcome animation.
  8. Wait for the Home screen to show.
  9. Insert the USB cable, plug your mobile device in, and wait for Android Auto to launch.

    Note: For SYNC 4, launch Android Auto from the app. Android Auto should launch on its own in the vehicle. 

Unable to Hear Incoming Call Audio While SYNC 3 is Connected to Android Auto

If you are unable to hear a call while connected to Android Auto with SYNC 3:

  1. Disconnect your mobile device from Android Auto.
  2. Connect your mobile device to SYNC via Bluetooth.
  3. Select Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen. 
  4. Select Phone
  5. Select Set Phone Ringtone
  6. Select Use Phone Ringtone
  7. Connect to Android Auto.
