How to make a backup passcode for Phone As A Key™* with FordPass®**?

You can create a backup passcode using your SYNC® screen after you set up your Phone As A Key device. Use the steps below for more information. 

Create Backup Passcode for Phone As A Key 

Select one of the options below for steps to create your backup passcode for Phone As A Key. 

Create Backup Passcode Immediately After Setting Up Phone As A Key

To make your back passcode immediately following the Phone As A Key Set up process:

  1. Access your vehicle and take your key fob with you.

Important:

  • The key fob presence is required when setting up your backup passcode.
  • It serves as an additional layer of control and authentication to ensure the person setting up the passcode has the authority to do so.
  1. Safely enter your vehicle.
  2. Ensure that your vehicle is on, running, parked, and in a well-ventilated safe area.

    Note: On your SYNC touchscreen, you will be presented with the option to create a Backup Passcode.

  3. Tap Yes to continue.

    Note: An instructional screen with setup requirements will appear.

  4. Select Continue.

    Note: If more than one Phone As A Key device is detected, you must select which one you want to be backed up.

  5. Enter your desired passcode. 

    Note: Your passcode must meet the system requirements which are at least six characters of letters, numbers, and special characters or 10 characters if all numbers (e.g., #Ford1 or 2569013473).

  6. Re-enter your passcode. 

    Note: A pop-up displays the completed and remaining steps. You may also create a new door keypad code at this time. If you choose to create a new door keypad code, you will be prompted to enter the code on the screen twice.

  7. Tap Finish.

Create Backup Passcode at a Later Time

To make your back passcode:

  1. Access your vehicle and take your key fob with you.

Important:

  • The key fob presence is required when setting up your backup passcode.
  • It serves as an additional layer of control and authentication to ensure the person setting up the passcode has the authority to do so.
  1. Safely enter your vehicle.
  2. Ensure that your vehicle is on, running, parked, and in a well-ventilated safe area. 
  3. Tap the Vehicle button on your SYNC touchscreen.
  4. Select Settings.
  5. Tap Backup Start Passcode.
  6. Press Create Backup Start Passcode.
  7. Select Continue.

    Note: If more than one Phone As A Key device is detected, you must select which one you want to be backed up.

  8. Enter your desired passcode. 

    Note: Your passcode must meet the system requirements which are at least six characters of letters, numbers, and special characters or 10 characters if all numbers (e.g., #Ford1 or 2569013473).

  9. Re-enter your passcode. 

    Note: A pop-up displays the completed and remaining steps. You may also create a new door keypad code at this time. If you choose to create a new door keypad code, you will be prompted to enter the code on the screen twice.

  10. Tap Finish.
