Receive Vehicle Health Alerts & Vehicle Health Reports through FordPass® and SYNC® AppLink®
Set up Vehicle Health Alerts & Vehicle Health Reports to get important notifications about your vehicle.
By connecting your vehicle to FordPass through SYNC AppLink you can receive Vehicle Health Alerts delivered directly to your phone. This will alert you to any problems with your vehicle, along with the severity of the concern and necessary steps to resolve it, so you never have to wonder what that warning light on your dashboard means again. Alerts are accompanied with buttons to click to call Roadside Assistance or to call or schedule an online appointment with your preferred dealer.
Vehicle Health Alerts will display as in-app notifications or push notifications, if enabled. Vehicle Health Alerts may be related to:
- Oil life
- Engine, Transmission & Emissions
- Brakes and Suspension
- Restraints and Driver Assistance
- Checks, Fluids and Filters
Additionally, you will also be able to schedule a Vehicle Health Report to be e-mailed at your preferred cadence, or you can choose to view one on demand.
First-Time FordPass and SYNC AppLink Setup
Please note the below directions will only apply to you if you have a 2017 (or newer) model year SYNC-equipped vehicle, or one of the following vehicles:
- 2016 model year, SYNC-equipped Escape, Explorer, Edge, F-150, Focus, and Mustang.
- 2015 model year, SYNC-equipped Edge, F-150, Focus, and Mustang.
Before you start
- A few things you should do or know before starting step 1:You may need to update your vehicle with the latest SYNC software, please verify here.
- Ensure you have the latest version of FordPass from the App Store® or Google Play™ installed on your mobile device, and sign into your account.
- Add your vehicle to your account by scanning the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) barcode. You may be asked to allow access to the camera prior to scanning.
NOTE: You can manually type your VIN to add the vehicle. Your VIN can be located by looking through the windshield on the driver’s side dashboard or driver’s side door frame of your vehicle.
- Connect your device to SYNC AppLink.
- iPhone® users: use a cable to plug your iPhone into your vehicle’s USB port.
- Android™ users: Pair your phone and make sure Bluetooth® is enabled on your device.
- By using the arrows under your screen, press Menu > SYNC Apps > Mobile Apps > FordPass.
- A Permission prompt may appear when FordPass is selected to Enable Mobile Apps. Select Yes.
NOTE: You will NOT be prompted to enable Mobile Apps if you have already completed this step for other AppLink-enabled apps. e.g. Pandora, Spotify, etc.

- Data collection will begin one minute after FordPass and SYNC AppLink are connected and the engine is running.
Subsequent FordPass and SYNC AppLink Connections
It is important to ensure your vehicle is connected to SYNC AppLink to monitor vehicle health and to receive Vehicle Health Alerts in FordPass and Vehicle Health Reports in your inbox.
- Connect your phone to SYNC AppLink and FordPass will appear in a list on the Mobile Apps screen. To get to this list, select Menu > SYNC Apps > Mobile Apps > FordPass.
- Data collection will begin one minute after FordPass and SYNC AppLink are connected and the engine is running.
Quick Tip
If you don’t see FordPass listed on your SYNC screen during the SYNC AppLink connection process:
- Go to Mobile Apps, then App Settings, then Request Update
Aftermarket On-board diagnostic devices (OBD) may interfere with various vehicle systems. To avoid interference, remove the device or contact the device maker for more information on compatibility.
