What is the yellow light (BLIS) on my side view mirror?

Integrated Blind Spot mirrors can help alert you to vehicles entering your blind spots that you might otherwise miss.

Yellow light blis

If your vehicle is equipped with the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®), the feature will automatically turn on when you start your vehicle.

  • The Blind Spot Monitor's yellow light on your side view mirror indicates a vehicle in your blind spot.
  • The Blind Spot Monitor's Off light on your dashboard illuminates to alert you that the feature is turned off.

Here’s how the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) works:3,10

  • Side view mirror indicator

The BLIS icon will appear in the side view mirror to alert you that a vehicle is in your blind spot from that side. It will remain on until the vehicle is no longer in your blind spot.

  • Instrument display indicator

If BLIS is turned off, a Blind Spot Monitor Off message will display in your instrument cluster, and you will no longer receive alerts in your mirrors.

The yellow alert indicator in the outside mirror also flashes twice when the system is turned off and will not turn back on while the system is off.

BLIS switches back on automatically whenever you start your vehicle.

WARNING

To help avoid injuries, NEVER use the Blind Spot Information System as a replacement for using the interior and exterior mirrors and looking over your shoulder before changing lanes. The Blind Spot Information System is not a replacement for careful driving.
