What is the Electric Vehicle (EV) Routing feature in Apple Maps?

The Apple Maps EV Routing feature creates a route to your preferred destination including EV charging stations along the way. It is activated through Apple CarPlay®*, and is only available for Mustang Mach-E owners that meet the following criteria:

  • 2022 Model Year (MY) and newer
  • 2021 MY with the following SYNC®** software versions (see Checking Your SYNC 4A Software Version): 
    • 21281_PRODUCT.244
    • 22028_PRODUCT.358
    • 22034_PRODUCT.364
  • A minimum iOS version of 15.4

  1. Connect your Apple device to your Mustang Mach-E and enable Apple CarPlay on your SYNC screen (see Connecting Apple CarPlay Using SYNC 4).
  2. Set a destination in Apple Maps with Apple CarPlay.

  3. Press OK on the pop-up message.

Note: If this feature is unavailable for your vehicle, the pop-up screen will not display, and you will go about setting your destination as you normally would.

  1. On your Apple device, select Connect to add the vehicle to Apple Maps.

  2. Review and decide on your data-sharing preferences with Apple.

Once you have selected a data-sharing policy, EV Routing in Apple Maps is enabled. Now, when you create new map routes via Apple CarPlay, it will display:

  • The estimated battery charge of the vehicle at the end of shorter trips.
  • The number and location of charging stations you will need to stop at for longer trips. 

Note: For trips with multiple charging stops required, your vehicle's estimated battery charge will display but only on your Apple device.

How does Apple Maps know my battery levels?
Ford worked with Apple to develop communications between the vehicle and the Apple device. However, the battery level will only update when the Apple device connects to the Mustang Mach-E through CarPlay.

My partner/friend/other person drove my Mustang Mach-E and the battery level in Apple Maps is not reflecting the new level. How do I update the battery level in Apple Maps?
The battery level will only ever update when the Apple device connects to the Mustang Mach-E through CarPlay.

I was charging my vehicle, and it gained a lot of power. Why isn’t this reflected in Apple Maps?

Can I add multiple Mustang Mach-E vehicles to Apple Maps?
Yes. 

Is this feature coming to the F-150 Lightning or E-Transit?
Ford is working diligently to push new features and software out to customers. We have no estimation at this time for when these customers will get the EV routing feature in Apple Maps.

I just saw a pop-up in Apple Maps on CarPlay, but it went away. How do I get this feature working?
Open Apple Maps on your Apple device while it is connected to SYNC through CarPlay to enable the feature. 

What features are unavailable in Apple Maps*** that are normally available with embedded SYNC Navigation when connected to the FordPass®**** App? 

  • Kilowatt Per Hour (kWh) rating of charge stations
  • Charge station availability
  • Verifying which charge stations are a part of the BlueOval Charge Network
  • Verifying if a charge station is capable of Plug & Charge
  • Selecting or excluding specific charge networks
  • Viewing BlueCruise enabled roads
