How do I precondition my Ford electric vehicle?

You can precondition your electric vehicle (EV) through the FordPass®* App or your vehicle's SYNC®** system. Preconditioning heats or cools your EV with electricity from the power grid, instead of from your vehicle's battery†. This keeps your battery at a healthy temperature when charging and your cabin climate just how you like it. This is especially important during the hot summer and cold winter months.

Step 1: Create a Departure Time

Use Departure Times when you are planning to go for a drive and when you would like your EV to finish charging. Select your preferred method and follow the steps outlined below.

FordPass App

To create a Departure Time using the FordPass App:

  1. Log in to the FordPass App.
  2. Go to the Vehicle tab.
  3. Choose Departure Time.
  4. Select Add Departure Time.
  5. Adjust the time, day(s) of the week, and cabin temperature to your schedule and preferences.
  6. Select Add Departure Time.

SYNC

To create a Departure Time using SYNC:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Charge.
  3. Toggle on Departure and Comfort and select the pencil icon.
  4. Adjust the time, day(s) of the week, and cabin temperature to your schedule and preferences.
  5. Press Save.

Step 2: Set Your Preferred Charge Level

Your preferred charge level tells your vehicle how much you would like to charge when plugged in. To maximize battery health, we recommend setting a charge level of no higher than 90% for everyday charging.

Note: This step can only be completed through the FordPass App.

  1. Log in to the FordPass App.
  2. Go to the Vehicle tab.
  3. Choose Charging.
  4. Select Charge Settings.
  5. Go to Preferred Charge Times.
  6. Select the location you want to manage. 
  7. Adjust:
    • Max Charge Level by sliding the bar to the desired percentage.
    • Preferred Charge Times, if desired.
  8. Press Save.

Step 3: Plug In Your Vehicle

Plug your vehicle into your charger. Your vehicle will start to precondition based on how much you want to charge and when you want to depart.

**Don’t drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don’t use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.

†Effectiveness of cabin conditioning may be reduced by extreme outside temperatures or when using 120-volt charging.
