HOW TO PRECONDITION YOUR FORD EV

Preconditioning is a feature that lets you pre-heat or pre-cool your EV battery and cabin with electricity from the power grid, instead of from your vehicle's battery. This helps your Ford EV work smart, not hard, to preserve range.

Here's how it works:

1. CREATE A DEPARTURE TIME

Use Departure Times when you’re planning to go for a drive and, when you'd like your EV to finish charging. You can create a Departure Time using the FordPass® App or your in-vehicle SYNC® screen.

If you're using the FordPass App:

  • Go to the Vehicle tab
  • Choose Departure Time
  • Select Add Departure Time
  • Adjust the time, day(s) of week and cabin temperature to your schedule and preferences
  • Select Add Departure Time

If you’re using SYNC:

  • Go to Settings
  • Select Charge
  • Toggle on Departure and comfort and select the pencil icon
  • Adjust the time, day(s) of week and cabin temperature to your schedule and preferences
  • Save your settings

2. SET YOUR PREFERRED CHARGE LEVEL

Your preferred charge level tells your vehicle how much you'd like to charge when plugged in. To maximize battery health, we recommend setting a charge level of no higher than 90% for everyday charging.

To set your Charge Level in FordPass:

  • Go to the Vehicle tab
  • Choose Charging, then Charge Settings
  • Select Preferred Charge Times
  • Select the location you want to manage
  • Adjust:
    • Max Charge Level by sliding the bar
    • Charge Times, if desired.
  • Save your settings

3. PLUG IN

Last but not least, plug your vehicle into your charger. Your vehicle will start to precondition based on how much you want to charge and when you want to depart. This keeps your battery at a healthy temperature and your cabin climate just how you like it, which is especially important on hot summer days and cold winter nights.
