How do I temporarily disable Automatic Engine Shutdown*?

You can temporarily disable the Automatic Engine Shutdown feature by using your vehicle's SYNC®** 3 touchscreen or the information display depending on your SYNC 3 software version.

Note: You cannot permanently switch off the Automatic Engine Shutdown feature. When you switch it off temporarily, it turns on the next time you start your vehicle.

Turning Off Automatic Engine Shutdown

Identifying Your SYNC Version

Two resources to help you identify your vehicle's SYNC generation are the:

  • SYNC and Navigation Updates page. Either:
    • Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select Check for update.
    • Log in with your Ford credentials, choose a vehicle from your garage, and select Check for updates.

      Note: Your SYNC generation will appear on the right-hand side of the page.

SYNC 3 Touchscreen

To temporarily disable Automatic Engine Shutdown with SYNC 3:

  1. Tap Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Select Vehicle.
  3. Toggle 30min Max Idle to Off.

Information Display

To temporarily disable Automatic Engine Shutdown with your information display:

  1. Using the left-hand steering wheel control, scroll to Settings.
  2. Press OK to select Vehicle.
  3. De-select the Auto Engine off box.
