F-150 Lightning™ Charging Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What charging options are available with the F-150 Lightning?

  • The Mobile Power Cord, capable of 30 Amps (A) charging on a 240V and 120V outlet, comes standard with all F-150 Lightning models.
  • The F-150 Lightning's extended-range battery and included 80A Ford Charge Station Pro charging equipment (which requires professional installation) provides the fastest home charge, connected features and available Ford Intelligent Backup Power*.

What charge level is recommended for daily driving?
Ford recommends that you charge to 90% for everyday driving and charge to 100% when you need the full range for a trip. Charging to 90% helps prolong the life of your battery.

What is the power of the onboard chargers (OBC)?
The standard-range OBC input is 11.3kW and the extended-range dual OBC is 19.2kW. Vehicle onboard chargers limit the amount of power a vehicle can accept during charge events. Therefore, you should consider your onboard charger capability with the power capability of your charge equipment, as well as the spare power of your home energy circuit, when deciding which is the right home charging solution for you. Visit the F-150 Lightning page for more information.

Does the F-150 Lightning come with a charge cord?
The Ford F-150 Lightning includes the 30A Mobile Power Cord, which allows you to charge from a traditional 120V or a 240V outlet. The F-150 Lightning with extended-range battery includes the 80A Ford Charge Station Pro as charging equipment. This allows a peak charging power of 19.2kW enabled by the extended-range’s dual onboard chargers, which means a full charge from 15-100% in about 8 hours**. For all F-150 Lightning home charging installation questions and needs, go to Sunrun.com. Professional installation by a qualified electrician is recommended.

Can I use the Mobile Power Cord with a regular 120V outlet?
Yes, you can use the Mobile Power Cord on a 120V or 240V outlet. The 120V allows you to get some charge just about anywhere you can plugin, but it is the slowest way to charge at about two miles on average per charging hour**.
