How do I recover my Backup Start Passcode for Phone As A Key™*?

If you have a Backup Start Passcode set up and your phone is not accessible (e.g. drained battery, lost, stolen, or broken), you can find the code inside your vehicle. Use the steps below for more information.

  • Your vehicle's SYNC®** screen will be black upon entry.
  • If your phone is not accessible, the passcode will not show up when you press your brake and start button.
  • Your Customer Connectivity Settings must have previously been enabled. If your Customer Connectivity Settings were not turned on when you created your backup start passcode, or if you are not sure, contact a Guide for additional assistance.

Recovering Your Backup Start Passcode

  1. Safely enter your vehicle.

Note: Avoid pressing the start button until directed to do so.
  2. Slowly pump your vehicle's brakes to wake the SYNC screen.
  3. Push down and hold the brake for a few seconds.
  4. Release the brake and wait 15 seconds.
  5. Push down and hold the brake pedal, push the start button, then release the brake pedal.

Within 1-2 minutes, your SYNC screen should display the Backup Start Passcode screen.

If the troubleshooting steps are unsuccessful, contact a Guide for further assistance.
