Even slowing down in C-MAX Hybrid is efficient, thanks to regenerative braking, which can recover more than 90 percent of this energy and send it back to the battery to be stored for later use.**

C-MAX Hybrid delivers best-in-class* 188 combined horsepower, and in all-electric mode, it is capable of a top speed of up to 85 mph. The combined energy of a dynamic electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery and the 2.0L Atkinson-cycle I-4 gas engine propels C-MAX Hybrids. And power-split hybrid architecture allows the battery and gasoline powered engine to work together using the motor and generator.

The lithium-ion battery and the 2.0L I-4 Atkinson-cycle gasoline-powered engine work together or separately by using the motor and generator to help maximize the vehicle’s efficiency.

EcoSelect Button

EcoSelect allows the vehicle to operate more efficiently. Drivers may notice less aggressive heating and cooling, softer acceleration, changes in engine behavior and EcoCruise activation. To activate the feature, press the EcoSelect button on the center console. A graphic will appear in the information display when EcoSelect is activated.

Regenerative Braking and Brake Coach

Regenerative braking recovers energy that is usually lost during braking or coasting and stores that energy in your battery for later use. The Brake Coach appears after the vehicle has come to a stop. It coaches you to brake in a manner which maximizes the amount of energy returned through the Regenerative Braking System. The percent displayed is an indication of the regenerative braking efficiency with 100 percent representing the maximum amount of energy recovery.*

Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (eCVT)

The C-MAX Hybrid powertrain uses an eCVT or electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, combining power from the engine and electric motor to deliver power to the wheels when you accelerate. Engineered, designed and produced in-house by Ford, the eCVT eliminates the noticeable upshifts and downshifts of conventional transmissions, providing a seamless driving experience.

Active Grille Shutters

Active Grille Shutters can help improve efficiency by altering the shutters behind the grille. Located between the grille opening and the radiator, the shutters are electronically controlled by the engine control module. They open or close to help maintain the ideal engine operating temperature. When less engine cooling is needed, the shutters close to help improve aerodynamics.
