How do I perform a master reset with SYNC®* 4?
Resetting the System
Before performing a master reset, try resetting the system to restore functionality. The system reset does not delete any data you have stored.
To reset the system, choose the option that applies to your vehicle below:
Vehicles Equipped with a Power Button
Press and hold both the Power button (center of the volume knob) and the Seek Right button for 10 seconds.
Vehicles Not Equipped with a Power Button
Press and hold both the Volume Down and Seek Right buttons on the steering wheel controls for 10 seconds.
If the system reset does not resolve the issue, continue with a master reset.
Performing a Master Reset
Important: A SYNC master reset erases all stored data. This includes FordPass®** Connect (modem) activation, authorizations, call history, text messages, previously paired devices, and navigation favorites. Your subscriptions, including Connected Navigation*** and BlueCruise****, will be suspended for 10 business days.
To perform a master reset:
- Tap Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
- Press Reset.
- Press Master Reset.
- Follow the prompts on the screen to complete the reset.
*Don’t drive while distracted. Use voice-operated systems when possible; don’t use handheld devices while driving. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
**FordPass Connect™ (optional on select vehicles), the Ford Pass App, and Complimentary Connected Service are required for remote features (see FordPass Terms and Conditions for details). Connected Service and features depend on compatible AT&T network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent the operation of connected features. Connected Service excludes Wi-Fi hotspot.
***Navigation services require SYNC 4 or SYNC 4A and FordPass Connect™ (optional on select vehicles), complimentary connect service, and the FordPass® app (see FordPass Terms for details). Customers receive a complimentary 90-day or 3-year trial of navigation services when an eligible vehicle is added to a member’s FordPass account. Trial period begins on the new vehicle warranty start date. At the end of the complimentary period, navigation service will terminate.
****Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgment, and need to control the vehicle. BlueCruise is a hands-free highway driving feature. Only remove hands from the steering wheel when in a Hands-Free Zone. Always watch the road and be prepared to resume control of the vehicle. It does not replace safe driving. See your Owner's Manual for details and limitations. Requires Ford Connect activation through the FordPass App (see FordPass Terms for details) and a FordPass Member Account. Connected services and features depend on compatible AT&T network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent the operation of connected features. The FordPass App, compatible with select smartphone platforms, is available via a download. Message and data rates may apply.
