How do I get the latest map updates for my SYNC®* Navigation system?

Based on your SYNC generation, you may either receive updates automatically or you will need to request them online. 

Keeping your SYNC maps updated improves accuracy and helps you find more efficient routes, saving time and money.

Identifying Your Vehicle's SYNC Generation

Two resources to help you identify your vehicle's SYNC generation are:

  • The SYNC and Navigation Updates page, which allows you to enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or log in with your Ford credentials and select Check for update. Your current SYNC generation will appear on the right-hand side of the page.
  • The SYNC Visual Reference Guide, which has example images of each generation of SYNC Ford has offered.

Updating Your SYNC Navigation Map

Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below to learn how to update your SYNC navigation.

SYNC 4A and SYNC 4

You will automatically receive map updates through Software Updates during your free trial and subscribed service periods**.

Full map updates occur once per year. Updates for the radius you drive most often occur quarterly.

SYNC 3

To update your navigation maps in a vehicle with SYNC 3:

  1. Go to the SYNC and Navigation Update page to make sure your SYNC system is up to date.
  2. Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select Check for update.
  3. Update your SYNC system if needed.

    Note: If your SYNC Navigation is up-to-date, you will see a green checkmark and a message stating that an update is not available.
     
  4. Select the dropdown under Navigation Updates and follow the instructions.

SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation, SYNC with MyFord Touch, SYNC with MyFord, SYNC with Navigation "P", SYNC Gen 1.1, and SYNC Gen 1

To update your navigation maps in a vehicle with a generation prior to SYNC 3:

  1. Go to the SYNC and Navigation Update page to make sure your SYNC system is up to date.
  2. Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select Check for update.
  3. Update your SYNC system if needed.

    Note: If your SYNC Navigation is up to date, you will see a green checkmark and a message stating that an update is not available.
     
  4. Visit the Ford Navigation website.
  5. Enter your vehicle year and model in the search bar.
  6. Choose from the map options and select Add to Cart.
  7. Complete the checkout process.

Connected Built-In Navigation service requires SYNC®4 and FordPass Connect (optional on select vehicles), complimentary connect service, and the FordPass App (see FordPass Terms for details). Customers receive a complimentary 3-year trial of navigation services when an eligible vehicle is added to their FordPass account. The trial period begins with the new vehicle warranty start date. At the end of the complimentary period, access to connected navigation services will be discontinued. Connected service and features depend on compatible AT&T network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent the operation of connected features. FordPass App, compatible with select smartphone platforms, is available via a download. Message and data rates may apply.
