How do I get the latest map updates for my SYNC®* Navigation system?

Based on your SYNC generation, you may either receive updates automatically or you will need to request them online. 

Keeping your SYNC maps updated improves accuracy and helps you find more efficient routes, saving time and money.

Updating Your SYNC Navigation Map

Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below to learn how to update your SYNC navigation.

Note: To identify your SYNC generation, visit the SYNC and Navigation Updates page, enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), and select Check for update. Your current SYNC generation will appear on the right-hand side of the page. You can also view theSYNC Visual Reference Guide for example images of each SYNC generation.

You will automatically receive map updates through Software Updates during your free trial and subscribed service periods**.

Full map updates occur once per year. Updates for the radius you drive most often occur quarterly.

SYNC 3

To update your navigation maps in a vehicle with SYNC 3 with a USB or digital download:

  1. Go to the SYNC and Navigation Update page, and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
  2. Select Check for update.
  3. Update SYNC to the most current version if "SYNC Update Available" is displayed under SYNC Updates.

    Note: If your Navigation is up-to-date, you will see a green checkmark and a message stating that an update is not available.
     
  4. Choose Check for Map Updates under Navigation Updates.
  5. Select Get Started. You will be taken to the Ford Navigation Store.
  6. Enter your VIN, and select Check Available Updates. 
  7. Select an update method (USB drive or digital download).
  8. Follow the installation instructions.

SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation, SYNC with MyFord Touch®, SYNC with MyFord, SYNC with Navigation "P", SYNC Gen 1.1, and SYNC Gen 1

To request an SD card to update your navigation maps in a vehicle with a SYNC generation prior to SYNC 3:

  1. Go to the SYNC and Navigation Update page and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
  2. Update SYNC to the most current version if "SYNC Update Available" is displayed under "SYNC Updates".
  3. Select Check for update.

    Note: If your SYNC Navigation is up-to-date, you will see a green checkmark and a message stating that an update is not available.
     
  4. Visit the Ford Navigation website.
  5. Enter your vehicle year and model in the search bar.
  6. Choose from the SD card options and select Add to Cart.
  7. Complete the checkout process. The map update will be mailed to you.

**Connected Navigation services require SYNC®4 and FordPass Connect™ (optional on select vehicles), complimentary connect service, and the FordPass® App (see FordPass Terms for details). Customers receive a complimentary 90-day trial of navigation services when an eligible vehicle is added to their FordPass account. The trial period begins on the new vehicle warranty start date. At the end of the complimentary period, navigation service will terminate. Connected service and features depend on compatible AT&T network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent the operation of connected features. FordPass App, compatible with select smartphone platforms, is available via a download. Message and data rates may apply. 

Connected Built-In Navigation service requires SYNC®4 and FordPass Connect (optional on select vehicles), complimentary connect service, and the FordPass App (see FordPass Terms for details). Customers receive a complimentary 3-year trial of navigation services when an eligible vehicle is added to their FordPass account. The trial period begins with the new vehicle warranty start date. At the end of the complimentary period, access to connected navigation services will be discontinued. Connected service and features depend on compatible AT&T network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent the operation of connected features.
