24S37: F-150 (2014) Transmission Sudden Downshift Recall

2014 F-150® Trucks — 6R80 Transmission Sudden Downshift Recall

Electronic key fob for a Ford vehicle

Recall Reference Number: 24S37

Building vehicles you can count on is one of our most important jobs, which is why Ford has issued a safety recall for some 2014 Ford F-150® models.

An intermittent failure of the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor in the transmission may result in an unintended downshift to first gear. This can cause the rear tires to slide until the vehicle speed slows down and could result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

To have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software updated in your vehicle, you can book your appointment in the FordPass® App, online, or by calling an authorized Ford Dealership. Dealers will also perform a diagnostic test to determine if an additional repair to the transmission is necessary.

Complimentary Ford Pickup and Delivery and/or Ford Mobile Service may be provided at participating Ford Dealers and Lincoln Retailers.

For questions or concerns about safety recall 24S37, please call us at 866-436-7332. A Ford recall team member will be happy to assist you.

As always, thank you for being a Ford Owner.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the issue tied to this safety recall?

An intermittent failure of the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor in the transmission may result in an unintended downshift to first gear. This can cause the rear tires to slide until the vehicle speed slows down and could result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

What is the cause of the issue?

If there is an intermittent failure of the output shaft speed sensor (OSS) in the transmission, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may infer vehicle speed to be low, resulting in an unintended downshift to first gear.

What is the repair?

Dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with software that will prevent an unintended downshift into first gear in the event of an intermittent OSS failure. Dealers will also perform a diagnostic test to determine if an additional repair to the transmission is necessary.
