Recall Reference Number: 23S64

Building quality vehicles you can count on is one of our most important jobs. That is why Ford has issued a safety recall for certain 2016–2022MY Ford EcoSport® and Focus® vehicles with the 1.0L engine. The oil-drive belt tensioner arm may fracture or separate, causing a loss of vehicle power and power braking assist, increasing the risk of a crash.

Parts are scheduled to be available during the 1st quarter of 2025. Customers will be notified to schedule service when parts are ready. You can also check to see if your vehicle is included in this recall by entering your VIN here.

If the engine in your vehicle fails due to a damaged oil pump belt and/or oil pump belt tensioner, Ford has authorized your dealer to replace the engine assembly as an interim repair before the availability of remedy parts for the final repair. This repair will be free of charge (parts and labor).

What is the issue tied to this recall?

Certain vehicles may have an oil drive belt tensioner arm that may fracture or separate. In some vehicles, the oil pump drive belt material can degrade and lose teeth. If these failures occur, the vehicle will experience low oil pressure. This could cause a loss of vehicle power and a loss of the mechanical vacuum pump required to provide power braking assist, increasing the risk of a crash.

What is the cause of the issue?

It may be possible for the engine oil-pump drive belt tensioner arm to fracture, separate from the tensioner backing plate, and/or the oil-pump drive belt material may degrade and lose teeth, resulting in a loss of engine oil pressure.

Which vehicles are affected?

Certain 2016–2018 model-year Ford Focus vehicles built between March 24, 2015, and May 4, 2018, and certain 2018–2022 model-year Ford EcoSport vehicles built between April 3, 2017 and October 12, 2021. All affected vehicles have a 1.0L engine and 6F15 automatic transmission.

Is there a warning or alert for customers?

The instrument cluster will display a low-oil pressure warning message and may also display a check engine light. The driver and passengers may hear loud noises from the engine, and if the vehicle continues to be driven, there may be a reduction in available power.
