Frequently Asked Questions
What vehicles are affected by this recall?
Model years 2022-2023 Transit vans built between February 26, 2021, and July 30, 2023, and model year 2021 Bronco SUVs built between September 23, 2020, and December 22, 2021.
What is the issue tied to this recall?
Customers driving certain 2021 Bronco and 2022–2023 Transit vehicles may intermittently experience a rear camera blue image on the SYNC® screen when the vehicle is placed in reverse or the 360-degree view is selected during low-speed operation. Once this happens, the rear camera blue image will remain until the vehicle is turned off. The issue is likely to reoccur.
What is the cause of the issue?
Depending on the camera vehicle system, three causal factors can affect rate of defect: camera hardware, wiring retention, and Image Processing Module B (IPMB) software.
What is the expected repair?
When parts are available, owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln Dealer to have the rearview camera replaced and some models may also need a harness to relieve wire strain. Some Transit vehicles will also receive an Image Processing Module B (IPMB) software update.
When will the repair be available to customers?
We will share more details when available.
How is this issue different from the previous recall affecting certain Explorer® SUVs?
These vehicles weren’t included in the previous safety recall 23S23. Ford determined a recall was required for additional vehicle lines once we identified the root cause for 23S23 and reviewed warranty and performance data across these product lines.
When will you notify customers?
We will notify customers by mail in mid-October.
Will there be a charge to customers?
No.
