2020—2023 Ford Explorer® SUV Safety Recall
Recall Reference Number: 23S23
The safety of you and your passengers is of utmost importance. That is why we are issuing a recall on 360-Degree Camera system and Rear View Camera on the 2020–2023 Ford Explorer® SUV.
When the vehicle is placed in Reverse — or when the 360-degree view is selected — the SYNC® screen may intermittently display an image of blue or black.
Currently, Ford Motor Company does not have a permanent fix available; however, Ford has authorized your dealer to update the camera system’s software as an interim repair prior to availability of the permanent fix.
Then you can schedule service with a Ford Dealer to have the recall performed. You can check to see if your vehicle is impacted by entering your VIN here.

What is the issue tied to this recall?
When certain 2020-2023 model-year Explorer® SUVs are placed in Reverse — or when the 360-degree view is selected — the SYNC screen may intermittently display an image of blue or black (during low-speed operation). Once displayed, the rear camera blue image will persist until the vehicle is turned off. Once present, the issue is likely to reoccur.

The root cause is unknown and under investigation.

Currently we do not have a remedy. However, Ford has authorized your dealer to update the camera system’s software as an interim repair prior to availability of the permanent fix.

Yes, vehicles included in 21S44 and 23S02 are included in 23S23, as well.
Did the repair for 23S02 not work?
The software solution did not repair the issue. As soon as we better understand the root cause, we will notify dealers and customers about the new repair.
When will you notify customers?
We will begin notifying customers by mail on or before late June.
Will there be a charge to customers?
No, customers will not be charged for service.
