2023 Bronco® SUVs and Ranger® Pickups — Improper Lug Nut Torque Recall

Electronic key fob for a Ford vehicle

Recall Reference Number: 23S17

The safety of you and your passengers is key to every vehicle we build. That is why we’ve issued a recall for some 2023 Bronco and Ranger vehicles.

Vehicles affected in this recall may have lug nuts on the driver’s side road wheels that are insufficiently tightened, resulting in a potential wheel detachment from the vehicle.

You can see if your vehicle is included by entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) here. If your vehicle is affected, do not drive your vehicle in its present condition. In the interim, should you have the desire and capability to do so, you can tighten all of the wheel lug nuts on the driver’s side of the vehicle to the technical specifications called out in your Owner’s Manual (Wheel Lug Nut Torque Specifications).

Even with the interim action, you will still need your local dealer to complete the repair. Your dealer will tow your vehicle to the dealership, or participating Ford dealers may provide Mobile Service or Ford Pickup & Delivery options.

You can book an appointment online with participating dealers, in your FordPass® App or contact your local Ford Dealer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the issue tied to this recall?

These vehicles are equipped with lug nuts on the driver’s side road wheels that may not have been properly tightened. Insufficiently tightened lug nuts may result in loosening of the wheel attachment and potential wheel detachment from the vehicle. A wheel and tire assembly that detaches from a vehicle while driving may create a road hazard. If either were to occur, there would be an increased risk of injury or crash.

What is the expected repair?

Owners will need to have their wheels and lug nuts inspected. If evidence of loose lug nuts is present, wheels, lug nuts and wheel studs may be replaced.

What should owners do?

Do not drive your vehicle until the torque has been verified on the front and rear driver’s side lug nuts by a Ford Dealership or Lincoln Retailer. For owners with the desire and capability to verify the torque on the lug nuts, instructions will be provided. Owners performing this interim action must still schedule an appointment with their dealer for an inspection as part of this recall.

Can owners check the lug nut torque of their vehicle?

Yes, however, this is an interim action. Should you have the desire and capability to do so, you can tighten all of the wheel lug nuts on the driver’s side of the vehicle to the technical specifications called out in your Owner’s Manual (Wheel Lug Nut Torque Specifications).

Will there be a charge to customers?

No.

What is the reference number for this recall?
