Why am I receiving a "Keep Hands on Steering Wheel" message while driving my Ford?

This warning appears when your vehicle's advanced driver-assist systems, such as the Lane-Keeping System*, Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering*, or BlueCruise**, cannot detect that you are actively engaged with the steering wheel.

If the system detects no steering activity for even a short period, or if it interprets a light grip or touch as hands-off driving, it will issue this alert to prompt you to take active control.

To clear this warning, provide a slight steering wheel input to signal to the system that you are actively steering the vehicle.

If you require further assistance, contact your preferred Ford Dealer.

*Feature is available on select vehicles. Features may vary based on model year, trim, options, packages, and supply availability. Use the Build and Price tool to view feature availability on current models. If you have questions or need more information, reference your Owner’s Manual or contact your Ford Dealer. Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgment, and need to control the vehicle. Refer to your Owner’s Manual for details and limitations.

**Available feature on BlueCruise-equipped vehicles. BlueCruise requires a Connected Services plan and modem activation. BlueCruise driver-assist features can be activated in hands-free Blue Zones and do not replace safe driving and driver’s need to control the vehicle. See ford.com/bluecruise for more details on available plans and hands-free models.
