What does the Distance Indication and Alert feature do?

What does the Distance Indication and Alert* feature do in my Ford?

Distance Indication and Alert is a Pre-Collision Assist feature that provides you with a graphical indication of the time gap to other preceding vehicles traveling in the same direction.

Note: Distance Indication and Alert deactivates and the graphics do not display when Adaptive Cruise Control is active.

Distance Indication and Alert shows one of the following graphics in the information display.
