How much does it cost to charge my Ford Electric Vehicle in public?
Put a Charge in Your Vehicle, Not a Dent in Your Wallet
Like gasoline, prices for electricity can vary between regions. In most areas, you will be charged per kWh (kilowatt-hour). You’ll be able to see the cost to charge at different Blue Oval™ Charge Network stations in your FordPass App. Many Level 2 charge stations offer complimentary energy! The rest of the Level 2 chargers charge a nominal fee per charge session. Charging in public can get expensive, though, when you want to DC fast charge your vehicle. For instance, if you have a Mustang Mach-E with an extended range battery, and you plug it in for 45 minutes (to go from a 10% charge to an 80% charge)* at a DC fast charging station, you may pay between $20 and $30 or more, depending on the station. Mustang Mach-E owners will receive 250 kWh of complimentary charging with Electrify America fast-charging stations.**
*Charge time based on manufacturer tests. The charging rate decreases as the battery reaches full capacity. Your results may vary based on peak charging times and battery state of charge.
**Modem and Blue Oval Charge Network access must be activated. Complimentary charging expires 2 years from the warranty start date. Offer excludes idle fees associated with charging. See dealer for important details.
Take Control with the FordPass App
With more than 16,000 charge stations in North America and counting, finding a Blue Oval Charge Network station should feel about as easy as choosing a coffee shop or sandwich joint.* For easy directions to a nearby charger, we suggest using the in-vehicle navigation with SYNC® 4A or the FordPass App. One or both help you:
- Find an available charge station and, in many cases, read reviews and know the cost to charge before you get there
- While at the station, monitor charging progress so you can use the time to your advantage and get an alert when your charge is completed, or when you’ve charged enough to continue your trip
- Use the FordPass Power My Trip feature that monitors your vehicle’s charge state, maps out charging points along your route and recommends how long to charge at each stop to get you to your destination**
Easy Way to Pay
With Plug & Charge technology, you can automatically pay for charging by simply plugging into a public charging station, eliminating the need to use your smartphone or credit card. After a simple registration, participating stations will be able to communicate with your electric vehicle and bill you accordingly.
*Based on original equipment manufacturers (OEM)/automotive manufacturers that sell all-electric vehicles and have publicly announced charging networks. Department of Energy data used. FordPass, compatible with select smartphone platforms, is available via a download. Message and data rates may apply.
**FordPass Connect (standard on Mustang Mach-E), the FordPass App and complimentary Connected Service are required for remote features (see FordPass Terms for details). Connected service and features depend on compatible AT&T network availability. Evolving technology/cellular networks/vehicle capability may limit functionality and prevent operation of connected features. Connected service excludes Wi-Fi hotspot.
