It's time to gear up and get in the game. Explorer has the power and plenty other dynamic features designed to help you play hard and get out there far beyond the roads less travelled.

3.5L EcoBoost®

3.5L EcoBoost®

The 3.5L EcoBoost® combines turbocharging and direct injection. It generates best-in-class* 365 V6 horsepower plus 350 lb.-ft. of torque68 . This EcoBoost is standard in the Explorer Sport and Platinum, which also feature standard Intelligent 4WD with Terrain Management System™ plus Hill Descent Control.™
Powerful 2.3L EcoBoost® Engine

Powerful 2.3L EcoBoost® Engine

A powerful 2.3L EcoBoost® engine delivers 280 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque,68  a substantial increase over the previous 2.0L EcoBoost. And it’s available with 4WD and the Class II Trailer Tow Package.
*Horsepower and torque ratings achieved with 93-octane fuel.
Standard 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 Engine

Standard 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 Engine

The 3.5L Ti-VCT (twin independent variable camshaft timing) V6 delivers 290 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque with an EPA-estimated rating of 17 city/24 hwy/20 combined mpg.* In conventional valve timing, the intake and exhaust valves have to open and close at a fixed point, compromising performance. But Ti-VCT virtually eliminates this compromise. With its variable control of valve cam timing, Ti-VCT can optimize performance across the entire low, mid and high ranges of the power band to match the driving conditions.
*FWD. Actual mileage will vary.
Towing Capability

Towing Capability

The Explorer can tow up to 5,000 lbs. when properly equipped. Power comes from its standard 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 or available 3.5L EcoBoost® . The available Class III Trailer Tow Package, required for towing, includes an engine oil cooler, wiring harness and tow hitch. The Explorer offers features that make towing easy. The standard rear view camera10  provides a video image of the area behind you. Hill start assist helps keep the vehicle from rolling backward when you’re on a slope or hill. The trailer sway control feature, integrated with standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control,™ detects trailer sway, automatically adjusts engine speed and applies asymmetrical braking to help counter it.39
Trailer Sway Control

Trailer Sway Control

Building on AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control,™ the standard trailer sway control selectively brakes and adjusts engine power to maintain trailer control.39  The result is stability and control, even when towing large loads.
AdvanceTrac® with RSC®

AdvanceTrac® with RSC®

Standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ (RSC®) uses two gyroscopic sensors to monitor both yaw rate and roll rate. This allows AdvanceTrac with RSC to help you maintain control whenever it detects wheelslip, understeer, oversteer or roll motion. It also helps maintain control on adverse road conditions such as ice, gravel or rain. AdvanceTrac with RSC also features Curve Control, which will slow the vehicle down when it senses that it’s going too fast for a particular curve.39
Curve Control

Curve Control

Curve Control39    will slow you down as much as 10 mph in approximately one second when it senses that you’re going too fast for a particular curve. Employing throttle reduction and four-wheel braking, it’s always active in helping you maintain control around curves. Also, it functions on dry or wet pavement and is particularly useful when you’re entering or exiting freeway off- or on-ramps with too much speed. Curve Control, standard on all Explorer models, is an enhancement to AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control.™
Six-Speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission

Six-Speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission

Explorer comes standard with a six-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, so you can easily and quickly change gears.
